They advertise and dealer confirmed that all MB electric cars come with 2yr free charging at Electrify America (EA). I assumed the GLE 450e qualifies as electric since registered with Mercedes Me charge. The dealer also said 450e hybrid gets free charge
I tried to charge 2 different days in Key Largo this past week (12/20 & 12/24) at Electrify America and the station would not recognize the GLE for free charge nor would Plug & Charge work. Had to start the charge from Mercedes Me app and the cost showed up on my Chargepoint account as designed for paid charges
anyone else experience no free charge for GLE 450e? I called EA and they said GLE does not qualify for free charge. They also said the model does not support Plug & Charge protocol. Of note my EQE charges fine using Plug & Charge and free charges at EA also work so the issue is not my app or my account
update 12/27-
MB dealer called Atlanta and confirmed the free charge does not apply for the GLE 450e plug-in hybrid. Also Plug & Charge not supported-but can use Mercedes Me app to start charge

I can't imagine anyone would consider it an "electric car". Electric Vehicles (EVs) normally means Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs), which are very different from plug-in hybrids (PHEVs).Originally Posted by donaldm241

Note the abbreviation you used (PHEV) has EV in it. So the mistake of assuming free charge was an easy mistake. And the dealer originally said free charge then changed it 3 wks later.Originally Posted by Kentski

I still love the car. got 28mpg mileage on a 500 mile road trip to the FL Keys on I-75 and limited access roads. My only wish is that the engine could recharge the battery while driving in gas mode but it does not. The recuperation scheme is like a trickle charge and not noticeable on battery meter. Fortunate I have a wall charger in my garage thats easy to charge up the GLE on a daily basis since its my wife's around town car

I'm assuming you mean in level driving. You get good regeneration going downhill don't you? I think that's typical.Originally Posted by donaldm241

Recharging the battery using the engine takes more energy than you will get back from the battery. There is no MPG advantage to charging with the gas motor. If you are driving into an area that prohibits internal combustion engines like some city centers in Europe, charging the battery prior to entering could be useful.Originally Posted by donaldm241

live in FL. And drive to FL Keys is all flat! And recuperation from normal driving is poor. Much much less than my experience on my EQE. In summary recuperation is not effective except slowing down the carOriginally Posted by Kentski

Looking to get a GLE450e. Does it have enough power to you? How is the ride quality? How’s the acceleration without battery charge?Originally Posted by donaldm241

great power/acceleration better than my 2020 gle 450. Ride quality excellent on springs & 21in tires. Acceleration without battery kick ok but less than 450Originally Posted by 450Benz123

Were you driving in "D-" mode, using the left paddle shifter to get there when in Hybrid mode? I've done that and found a lot of regen to the battery, increasing range.Originally Posted by donaldm241

I've owned three different PHEVs from three different automakers. All offer the ability to charge the traction battery from the ICE (Porsche, Toyota, Volvo). It's a great feature to have on long road trips where you can't charge, and I use it daily on our long road trips (but never "around town", naturally). I find that it's roughly a wash between using gas to charge the battery at highway speeds (the rate is very fast, akin to 240-volt charging speeds if not faster) and using gas in stop-and-go traffic (which is where ICEs suck and electric motors are much better). And it's much nicer using all-electrtic in stop-and-go traffic instead of having the ICE going off and coming on repeatedly when you're out of traction-battery juice. MB failed badly by not allowing this in their GLE 450e, but the DC-fast-charging option does partly make up for it.Originally Posted by BlueYonder

I was in battery hold mode with D- selected. No where to charge battery on route so I used gas engine only and no batteryOriginally Posted by cometguy

I'm surprised to learn that there is no "charging while driving" mode. That's a significant omission IMHO. Thanks to @donaldm241 for bringing it up!

Leaning towards a GLE450e. Any long term reviews anywhere. Any persistent /common problems that i should be aware of

Compared to the EQS 450 I traded in, this GLE 450e does not impress me when D- mode. With the EQS you could feel the reduction in speed quite well. With the GLE 450e I hardly feel any reduction in speed when lifting off the padal.Originally Posted by donaldm241

As for free charging at Electrify America.........this week Mercedes dealer asked me to come in for them to update my MercedesMe on my Iphone. They said I had two years free charging at Electrifying American and also gave me one of those RF cards I could also use, just like the EQS 450 I had traded in. I plan to try it out in Eastland Tx tomorrow.
As for another post I read about not being able to charge while driving........I'm neutral on this one. When charging a ev while driving.....it takes energy to make energy to put in the battery......so It mostly makes no sense to me to have that feature. Had it on a Porsche Panemera Hybrid where I could charge on the go. But on that car the ev batt was small and meant just for better acceleration using it with the gas engine imho.

Couldn't stand the thought that I had a car/suv that couldn't GO anywhere other than about 200 miles to the next charger when traveling. Then sit for 30 to 40 minutes to get to the next charger and.......sit for another 40 minutes. It's all my fault. I have a S560 that will GO somewhere and had at the time a GLS 450 that would GO somewhere with its 36.4 gal tank, but thought I could stand the EQS and use it as a local car (good for that easily) but found I'm flawed in that for one reason or the other "I can't stand the idea of owning a vehicle that can't go anywhere at Interstate speeds in a timely fashion. I admit to having a bit of flawed thinking here, but the GLE450e can hold at least a 75/80 mph interstate speed and go from home to northern Ca, unlike the EQS 450.Originally Posted by gjmbusa

Had two S Model Teslas and one EQS. Those three don't GO anywhere in a timely manner imho. I don't wait in line for anything much less 40 minutes at a charger that might/might not be working. I'll buy another EV in a few years from now when they improve the driving time closer to what a S560 will do. Disclaimer: Never said I was a sane person.
