Are you happy with your GLE?

Hello,

I am looking for replacing my Range Rover Sport, the new version is very expensive (over $200k), so I look for alternatives around 150k new, like the GLE53. I already own an S550 W222 and I like it but it’s too long (L), too low and not very good for my daily drive in snow (I live in a ski resort), so I use it only for long trips.

So, I wonder, how do you feel about GLE ownership?

Thanks!

Approaching 4 years ownership of my 2020 GLE 350, it's the first car in decades I've kept long enough to actually pay off. Planning to keep it for a long time.

Great vehicle but if $150 is your mark choose the better vehicle in the AMG 63S. I’ve had two and enjoy them fully, no complaints.

No way! According to the experts, it should have exploded and burned by now.

Loved my 2020 GLE450 and thought that was the best SUV one could ever own. Then I got the 2023 GLE63s, all I can say is WOW ! Zero issues with either of them.

Thanks for all the answers, that is very encouraging. I will rent a GLE S63 in 10 days for a week.

Yes, the 63 is exactly my idea, I asked for the GLE in general because I guess they are all fundamentally similar apart from the engine.

Yes and no. It does what it's supposed to do, but on the other hand it also manages to **** me off almost every time I drive it. A new Defender probably would've been a better fit for me, too bad that wasn't a good fit tax-wise in Belgium.
I've considered selling it a few times, but that would be an even worse financial decision than buying it, so I'll just stick with it for now.

Likes:
* Everything is effortless, and most of the controls are very intuitive
* Plenty of power, handles heavy trailers well
* Nice place to be in for a long time
* The PHEV system works well
* Does good in the snow, despite weighing more than a small moon

Dislikes:
* All the computer nannies that can't be disabled, including the adaptive cruise
* It's huge outside yet sort of tiny inside
* I don't get along with the seating position. Either my shoulders hurt or my knee is up against the dash. I hate that there's no armrest other than the centre console, which is obviously not adjustable without moving the whole seat.
* The mirrors suck for backing up a trailer, they taper to a point way too much
* The sunroof creaks and rattles every time it freezes, almost like there's some ice getting trapped inside the gutters or something? Ridiculously annoying.

Yes have a 2024 GLE 450. MB could improve quality control. This is my 3rd MB SUV.

I can disable adaptive cruise…and its saves on the brake pads since the lane keeping is done through brake modulation. Also, cleaning the drainage channels might help with the freezing weather issues.

...21 GLE53 24 GLE53
I have been driving a loaded 21 GLE53 since summer of 2020 and it has been excellent. My wife traded her !9 CLS53 on the 24 GLE53 this past summer. That pretty well says it all.

Thanks, this sounds like most people are happy with it. The annoying nannies that reset at each restart seems like an MB tradition, I have an s class, and also need to disconnect voice guiding each time and start/stop, however lane keeping can be definitely disconnected.

I ordered a 2024 GLE 53 love it. Traded in my 2021 S580 had a myriad of problems with it. The GLE 53 has plenty of power
for me and gets decent mileage for a car this size. Almost as quiet as the S580, I ordered the 20 inch wheels for a smoother
ride. The stereo is good but wish it could be upgraded nothing basically wrong with it but the 1700 watt stereo in the S580
was better of course. So far no problems only 3k mile though. I think the GLE 63 is a great car but a lot more money just for power.
IMHO.

Had the 450 and then got a 63. The 63 has more road noise due to the 22" I assume but far excels in handling. The 63 also has the acoustic glass which surprisingly keeps the interior much cooler than expected when parked out in the sun. No comparison but they are entirely different vehicles. They just look similar

2021 GLE 63 S Coupe
Thrilled!

I purchased a “used” GLE 63S online in late 22 (it’s a 21). 1400 on the odometer so basically new car. Amazing color (no longer made), the engine is completely a last, and the car is the lap of luxury. Very expensive yes but at this level that’s the price. I love this car. Good for commuting, ski trips, driving around town, and short blasts down the backroads. I’d keep it forever if I could. You won’t regret a 63s if you want one.

I am very happy with my '21 AMG53.

But if I couldn't spec AMG ARC (active sway bars) on a GLE, I'd be in a different brand altogether. It makes the car, improving both ride and handling.

Since ARC has spotty availability in the GLE53, that leaves the 63S as the only Mercedes option. It also gets active engine mounts, which I feel would be a noticeable advantage.
I feel the same way about the Burmester 3D.

In short, I'd lean toward a 63 with it's better option availability, but since it's beyond affordable for me, I'd look for a CPO in my price range. I'd miss the straight six engine, though.

The Service Department is a very large consideration as well.

What does CPO mean? Sorry not up on the terminology? I'm also a huge fan of the Mercedes straight six engine and the first time I sat in a 63 and revved the engine the car rocked like an old Chevy. I remember thinking this is pretty uncivilized for a luxury SUV. Here I am a few month later loving the V8 sound and vibration (its not a smooth as the six, that's for sure) and would not go back to a six. My next car will be another V8 if we are not forced into EVs by then....

Certified Pre Owned warranty. When things break, they fix. It's especially important on a used car because you won't know the history of the usage and what hidden defects and wears there are.

Lucky you. What year and market? I certainly can't...
Drainage channels maybe, but after a year, almost never parked under a tree? Seems quick to have them clog up.

22’ 63S USA - maybe in Europe they don’t allow the nannies to be shut down. Drainage can fill up with all sorts of things even if not parking under a tree but it was just an idea to consider. Maybe the dealer can provide better options for your market

Interesting. Gives me some hope it can be coded in. So you can toggle between regular cruise and adaptive on a '22?
