Bad desgin?
Now, the engines are smaller, higher compression, tighter tolerance and more prone to break (or at least set off lights).
I can promise every single person on this form that a currently running 1972 Nova is a far more environmentally friendly car than any EV ever produced and every part of every system lasted longer (did they make the Nova in 72?)
Is there anything I can inspect today and see if this is going to be an issue for me? Or is it just, unplug and if it’s bad, it’s too late?
it’s my understanding that the part needed is the entire engine wiring harness. I see that even FCP euro sells the spark plug kit that includes the harness because of how often this happens (https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/mer...des-2541590000)

I don't think the OP's solution addressed the wiring issue as much as using new wires.
His was an air flow problem, or so it appears.
Still, ask your dealer to inspect the plug wires before warranty expiration. It might be covered out-of-warranty, since it's a known issue, but I did my usual "Inspect for potential warranty issues" a three months before my warranty expired. They replaced the wiring, but I put off plug replacement until 50k or so.
