Possible GLE 450e owner
Hello, Does anyone on here have a 450e that has not given them problems? I’ve seen the horror stories. Just wondering if anyone has one that actually works?
Thanks
Thanks

I have 5000+ miles on mine. Other than returning to the dealer for a 30 minute brake software recall everything else has worked perfectly, no issues. Very satisfied with the vehicle and its performance. Love the all electric mode in local, stop and go traffic.

I had mine for 6 months with out any issues. I drive mostly in EL mode but purposely turn on sport mode to drive with the ICE. I'm currently getting around 65 miles on electric and through the winter around 54.

Zero issues here. Had one small trim piece slightly loose on the front that I found when washing it the first time. It has been replaced. The car is an absolute dream. We are at 1,984 miles today (since April 3) and still have 3/4 tank of gas left. The electric range is well over 60 miles if you are in city/stop and go traffic. Highway range at 78-80 MPH is about 50 miles.

Love my GLE 450e
Charge up using 240v at home (under 3 hrs) and 120v at the lake (over 24 hrs).

I drove my GLE450e 8000 miles in the first three months and experienced only tire wear issues (see other thread on the Bridgestone Alenza).
The biggest problem for me is losing sleep after reading, on this forum, about potential issues . I'm not kidding. I have only recently, after four months, reached a level of serenity where the car doesn't plague my dreams... despite not having issues.
Heading out shortly on a 3700 mile drive... maybe I'll have more to say after that.
However, I have frustrations with elements of MBUX (default settings, inability to change for the long-term). As a dog owner, the interior alarm drives me crazy. I went for eighteen years with an alarmed Toyota Highlander and did not have a single inadvertent trigger of the alarm. I've had dozens with the current system. My dog takes it well, but still...

ALL cars with advanced tech and menu driven controls are rated poorly.
The ones with last-gen user interfaces (simple) are at the top of their ratings.
The raters also placed heavy emphasis on whether or not their favorite drink mug fit well the cup holders.
Seems to be a User Experience issue more than actual failures.
Some of the "most reliable" ones also had the most recalls. Go figure.

I find that Battery Hold is the mode I like best when going long distance. It mimics my previous standard hybrid, except for not using gas to charge the traction battery. And it interacts much better than Sport with Distronic Cruise, especially in traffic. I just wish I could nail it as the starting mode.

Touch the car button next to the palm rest in the console for the quick access menu.
Deselect interior alarm.
Now you have your Highlander back!

Has anyone bought the dash cam feature from the Mercedes connect store? Salesman is telling me that you can buy it. As long as you have the augmented reality feature. Thanks.

There is a thread on this forum where user elbekko (search for “FAIL”) offers use cases where having to turn off the alarm, even if available via the "Quick Access", is ... well, a failure by MBZ.
Similar comments in the same thread from Gmr555 also illustrate the issue with suggestions like “Just turn it off.”

I sense some trolling here (because it is explained well in the thread I mentioned), but I'll play along. On “What's wrong with just turning it off?” the issue is that it comes back on. If it would stay off, until I turned it back on, then it would be fine.
Here’s a use case very similar to one mentioned by elbekko. At a hotel with spouse and dog. In the morning, I pack the car. Each time I zip back in to get more stuff, I lock the car. No problem. Then, once everything is in the car, I get the dog and put him in the car. Then I have to go back and get my mobility-challenged wife. If I lock the car, then the alarm goes off just about as I get in the hotel.
If I don’t lock the car, then the very best dog in the world is unsecured.
If I remember as I’m putting the dog in, then I have to get in, start the system, wait for MBUX to stabilize, turn the interior alarm off, turn off the car, get out and lock it. Go in, escort, get in the car, start it and… drive, drive, drive. Hours later, stop at a rest area. I get out to escort my wife and…. should I lock the car? Hmmm, is the interior alarm off? Don’t know for sure…
I understand that Mercedes uses the term “cockpit” to describe the driver’s environment, but I shouldn’t have to have an actual checklist protocol to takeoff.
I should be able to set the car as I like. Get out. Get in. Get out. Get in. Get out. Get in. And still have it set as I like
