Looking to get a gle 450 or 43 amg coupe

Hello all I have the itch again for a new mercedes and have been looking at the gle43 and 450 as they seem to be in my price range. Was curious on what reliability on these was like at 80-120k miles and even beyond if you guys have gotten there. I may be getting mine with a warranty. Also are these cars using the same engine? the 450 was the original release but then they quickly moved over to the 43. I am not really sure on all the differences other than the badging.

2021 c300 Cab. Arrived 7/28/21 . 24 GLE 450e.
It would certainly help if you listed the year. Also, to the best of my knowledge the 43 would be an entirely different beast. Just google the 2. Include the year. It’s certainly not just badging.

WIth 80-120k miles, defintely get a warranty. We have a 2020 GLE 450 and purchased a 6 year/100k warranty when new - we've put 66k miles on it in 5 years, and in the last couple months, the warranty has paid for itself 3x over, covering $7k+ in repairs including strut replacement ($1k) and it"s currently in the shop to have its evaporator coil replaced (from other posts I've seen, this is a $7k repair involving pulling the dash apart).

The 43 amg and 450 are totally different vehicles. The 43 is a previous gen and the 450 is the current body style. I owned both (450 first before the 43) and I will tell you right now GET THE 43AMG. The 450 is bigger but if you will not get the 7 seat option and if it wont have air suspension I will think twice. The 450 has a lot of gizmos that was only good in paper as I never used any of it (like self parking, lane change assists....) you should however buy one with the distronic plus just for the auto brakes and semi-self driving (also available on the GLE43 if equiped). The 450 without airmatic will be bouncy. It is also prone to electrical problems and the mild hybrid battery for the 2020 to 2022 have some teething problems. From my initial ownership of the 450 it went to the dealer for some major quality problems. The gle43 amg in the other hand after buying it used with a low mileage had ZERO issues. The HP and Torque of the 43 is more than the 450 but the 450 is a little quicker on the initial go because of the electric motors but the 43 will sprint with attitude after the biturbos work its magic. The 450 will do better on gas as well as long as you do not drive it like you stole it. The 43 on the other hand put it on sport plus you will be tempted not to step on the gas because of the pops and crackle the exhaust will give you. If you have some race boy blood but wants to drive something calm ones in a while you will love the 43. I think majority of the 43 has airmatic and not having one on a +$70k merc is a sin. Airmatic takes these metal boxes to a different level then there is the active dampers option as well that takes it one more level up (not needed really as this is another expensive thing to break).

Drive both and see what you will like. If the 43 is low miles, have airmatic, have OEM trailer hitch, have distronic plus, active LEDs, not worn interior, you dont need 7 seats, I would strongly consider the 43.

Good luck.

I wouldn't ever buy one these new or used. I'd only lease and when the lease is up it's time for a trade in. They have to many issues.

It's best that you don't read this forum if you own one.
It'll cause you to get paranoid.

It's true of all "brand" forums.

Especially after new intros or facelifts. (Which many buyers avoid because of teething problems. All brands.)

The tech race takes no prisoners. The points of failure have increased exponentially.

What’s the fascination with leasing? I can buy the car and sell it whenever I want. I like to buy on my timeline.

It’s best not to read these forums BEFORE you buy. Once you own one it’s too late.
