Ghost braking?

Wife was driving our 2020 GLE to drop the kids to school today. When driving the car just kept randomly braking. Very dangerous. Anyone have this issue? This is our 3rd Benz with collision/brake assist etc and we have never had this issue. She said she pulled over and wiped the sensors, but it was still occuring.

Did you have any cruise control settings on? Active Speed Limit Assist, the system can adapt the vehicle's speed based on detected traffic signs and navigation data. If not, then report this to NHTSA, it takes only 5min:

Needs more information. Under what specific conditions did it happen? From the picture it looks like one of the front parking sensors is triggering, so the Drive Away Assist might be kicking in limiting the speed to 1 mph.

This is part of the Maneuvering Assistance and can be turned off, but your car may have a faulty parking sensor.

Dry road conditions. No cruise control on or anything. Her speed was not limited, just sudden braking and the camera would pop up.

Nice detective work. Looks like a faulty sensor. Maybe a rock nailed it causing this sudden issue.

That seems to indicate separate issues. The camera only pops up below a certain speed, 10 mph if I remember correctly. Sudden braking at higher speeds is what's known as phantom braking and can occasional occur if the system thinks it saw something move into the car's path. For the latter, the sensors involved are the camera in the windshield behind the rear view mirror and the radar sensor behind the Mercedes star. They could be affected by a dirty windshield or debris such as dead insects on the Mercedes star. Did your wife clean those areas? Have you by any chance ever had your windshield replaced? If so was it replaced with OE glass or aftermarket glass?

We literally just got the car back on Monday from the dealer for warranty work on code P06DA00 so the car was clean. I'm going to call today as I have a bit of time. I'm thinking they messed something up when putting the car back together and if the had to do any programming. I took it for a quick drive last night after work and did notice it at lower speed/stop. Also when leaving the gas station (nothing close) the sensors went crazy all around.

This happens on my 2021 GLC 300. I had the parking sensor replaced and later the wiring harness for the parking sensor I was told by my dealership there was resistance in the wiring harness causing the sensor values to increase the detecting range. I will say have them take a look because when it starts to rain it will get way worse.

This issue will also cause your seat belts to tighten if it triggers while driving at normal speeds (this has happened to me once while i was on the highway)

Seems like the issue corrected itself. I think when the dealer finished the warranty work, they washed the car and left it outside causing ice to build somewhere that was not visible behind the bumper.

I parked the car in the garage over night and the next day it seems like the issue went away. To me that is still poor quality. I wash cars in the winter all the time and never had this issue.
