What is this part?

Hey y'all. New 2022 GLE350 owner here. Had the car detailed after receiving it and found this part loose on the floor under the drivers seat. I've googled the number on the part and have come up empty, I can't seem to find where this goes. Any chance someone here knows what it is and where it belongs? Doesn't seem to affect anything yet, but it's going to drive me nuts until I find out where it goes and get a replacement part.

I've attached pics of both sides of the part, and one side seems to have some interior carpet/material attached to it. Still can't seem to see where it fits.

Any help will be appreciated and help save my sanity.

Great question.
2 things.
1 it really sucks that your detail shop is a piece of junk that they clearly broke something off and didn’t fix it or tell you about it. But it shouldn’t be broken in the first place.
2 I now also need to know where this is from because I spent way too much time researching this part and location possible pieces matching up from diagrams
Good luck

LOL! You are too kind. I really appreciate you taking some of your time on this. I’m on a mission and I’m sure I’m not going to succeed on my own. Sent an email to my SA at the dealer and I’m sure he’ll roll his eyes at my high maintenance request.

OK. After seeing your response I went out with a flashlight and saw this in the area between the driver’s seat rail and the center console carpet area. Noted an area with a seemingly carpet missing matching that on the part!. Behind it is a flap with a bolt.

but…

Whats weird is that if the part is placed with the carpet facing the part, the tabs are facing OUT. And I can’t seem to make it make sense either.

maybe this pic will help someone (or you &#128522 check your GLE. Maybe it’s a cover for an access point to the bolt?

Learned today that this part is a piece of an assembly belonging to the center console. Still don't understand the exact location, but my dealership tracked it down and has scheduled an appointment to replace this assembly under warranty in two weeks. Since I still don't get it, I'll close out this thread when I finally understand where it went. LOL.

Please do post a pic of the location once you get your car back. Just curious to know where in the console.

Wow! So I just got back from the dealer and picking my car up. They said this broken part helped cover a bolt that secured the center console. So they actually went ahead and replaced the entire center console! Part number 167-689-13-00-9H42 - Housing, Center Console. This part retails for $1790! I"m sure this cover was non-essential, but it did result in the carpet fraying from the outside of the console, which you can see in the pics above.

Very impressed and happy that they would replace the whole center console under warranty. Even more impressive that they were able to figure out what assembly that part came from by looking at the pics I sent. I don't see that small part anywhere on the diagram.

Here is the link to the part/assembly: https://classicparts.mbusa.com/oem-p...16768913009h42

Thanks for trying to help!
