I miss my Blackberry! The pre facelift GLE did have a small square capacitive touch control for the menu related functions just like Blackberry had post trackball, and they worked well. The current offering just seems cheap.

I suffer from Blackberry Thumb. 8 years on the platform, on the road, texting & emailing hours per day.

The difference is your cell phone's touch screen works well. The capacitive controls don't work well. This isn't an issue of adoption, the controls just don't work well.

Fair to say the infotainment touch screen also responds well to touch if we stay within the car for the sake of comparison, not the capacitive touch on the steering wheel, the Blackberry style touchpads that was mentioned on older MBs, you can even adjust the sensitivity (If I recalled correctly).

Answer is yes for older mbs:

Setting the sensitivity for the touchpad- E-Class Saloon January 2022 W213 MBUX Owner's Manual Multimedia system: ©SettingsSystemControlsTouchpad sensitivity SelectFast,MediumorSlow. To set the pressure sensitivity: switchTouchpad tapon or off. If the function is switched on, a tap on the touchpad is enough to select a menu item.

Touch screen works great, the capacitive controls are another issue. The old blackberry style controllers also worked great.

I also believe it is the type of technology that identifies and registers touch that is the issue, I still remember back then when we had capacitive touch screen phones, the very first generations of touchscreen phones, not the best experience to say the least. Is this the same technology used here on the steering wheel controls? Hence the word "capacitive"? I also remember back then you kind of need a stylist.
