Mercedes of Westwood (MA). Fraud?

I’m still trying to get over this. I had new tires installed about year ago at a Mercedes dealer. A few months ago, I noticed a slow leak in my rear driver side tire. I took it to a dealer (not original installer due to distance) and asked them to look at it. Here’s there assessment: Found a nail on inside shoulder of the LR tire, 315/40R21 111H Pirelli Scorpion Verde MO.

They advise it couldn’t be repaired and the cost of a new tire would be $510.

I decided to hold off on replacement and went home and pulled off the tire to see the exact placement of the puncture. THERE WAS NO NAIL!

I squirted the tire with soapy water and could see the valve thru the wheel was leaking. Took it to local tire place to have them repair and inspect. They cleaned the inside corrosion around the stem, fixed it but no evidence of any punctures

I called Mercedes Benz of Westwood MA, and spoke with Savannah Silva and explained that this is egregious and may constitute fraud. Were there other times I was cheated or had fraudulent charges? How many times were other customers exposed to this and how much would that total over time? Of course she was apologetic. Other than offering to look into it, and a car wash/vacum, she offered nothing to rebuild the relationship. We spoke about something more meaningful and she said she’d get back to me yesterday.

She didn’t call. I’d like to think she will eventually call but who knows. I raise this issue so others visiting this dealer will give pause and consider.

Were you charged for their diagnosis of the nonexistent nail?

Did the tire store break the bead and inspect the inside of the tire?
Holes in the tread/sidewall can sometimes not leak unless moving.

I keep a spray bottle with soapy water in the garage, but it doesn't always show a leak, even though I've discovered it with an inside look.

Any chance there was a nail, and it got spit out?
Sometimes nails and other foreign objects don’t penetrate all the way through all the plies. Sometimes they get between plies, and cause leaks between plies that work their way out to the original puncture.
That scenario isn’t particularly credible, but maybe.
If the nail was non existent that’s consumer fraud big time.

Could have been a short nail/screw that didn't puncture but was there on inspection and was flung out after you left. It is suspect though.

Why not? The dealer has competitive prices and offers a road hazard warranty good at any Mercedes dealer.

Yes, and my local dealership stores my off season tires for me. Less garage space waste and no messing with tires. Nice when having 3 Mercedes and all need winter tires.

Apparently not at the dealer he visited. If I recall my local dealer said they will NOT plug or patch tires. Replacement only. I refuse to go to the local dealer anymore due to many other much more glaring issues though.

Most tire shops will not repair a tire with a nail in or close to the sidewall. They will also not attempt a repair on a run flat tire. My Mercedes dealer repaired a nail puncture for me a couple of months ago.

Positive update. Malinda and Matthew were great about repairing the relationship. They provided a complimentary service and were a pleasure to work with. All in all, they did the right thing to make up for things.
