Need Feedback (GLE 400)

We will be making a decision on a GLE 400 tomorrow for my wife, and I was wondering if any of you have any regrets with the vehicle.

Does 33 views and 0 comments mean everyone is completely satisfied with the GLE400?

So far so good. The car is smooth, quiet, and the turbo v6 is peppy enough. Blind spot assist is great and the 360 camera is excellent for tight spots.

Regrets:
- The MB logo bat signals that project from the mirrors are tacky. Didn't discover them until after getting it home. They're part of the auto-folding mirror package and cannot be disabled. The dealer wants $600 to replace them.
- I didn't have time to order and couldn't locate a model with ACS or distronic plus (self driving in stop and go traffic). People seem to love these features.
- It sounds like Apple CarPlay is coming on models produced in the new year judging by other threads. Bluetooth audio is fine, though.
- Shifts at low speeds (

It looks like part of the message got cut off. The last line was that shifts at speeds under 25mph are often jerky, but the dealer says this is the transmission "learning" and it goes away after a few thousand miles. The ML W164 forum mentions this too.

Overall, we're pleased with the car and would recommend it. None of the mentioned issues are deal-breakers. Good luck!

We found one she likes and hopefully they can get it from the other dealership and have it here by Tuesday or Wednesday so I can put a bow on it.

Thank you again for your review of the vehicle.

Yeah, I don't get the bat signal at all. Range Rover started this tacky trend! Can't you just black them out with something? I saw them on the upcoming GLS and just shook my head. But I bet for most people they think they're the bomb and that's all that matters. Just the way things work.

Under vehicle in the command system there is locator lighting. You can't turn them off there ??

The car has been great so far, no complain at all...however, if it wasn't for my wife insisting on getting the GLE, then I would have gotten a new cayenne instead..

Locator lighting doesn't affect them, unfortunately. Worst case, you could put some electrical tape on them.

I was in a similar situation. My one thought tho was that the Cayenne is bound to have a refresh soon. The entire appearance is starting to age. I would hate to buy a car and then next year something totally new comes out. At least with the MB renaming, here's hoping they might prolong the body style slightly longer to maintain values.

Well I am not sure about that since the GLE is in a similar timeline in which a brand new model should be expected soon given that the W166 has been around sincd 2012 and the e-class is coming out using the new design language as well as GLC, etc. The interior of the GLE is really a mix between the current e-class with some spare parts from the new design (steering wheels, touch pad, etc.) so if I have to guess, a brand new model design should be out within 1 or 2 yrs. That being said, I told my wife we are keeping this for 10 yrs at the minimum since she got what she wanted..

Well, we picked it up today. To bad we had to drive it out of the showroom into the rain to bring it home. But, my wife wanted it home today.

Thank you for the feedback that was given. "Happy wife = Happy Life"

Congrats and agree, my wife has been quite happy, especially she came from a 2014 E350 and she enjoys all the familiarities with all the buttons and look/feel...enjoy!

Update for anyone who isn't a fan of the bat signal MB logos projecting from the side view mirrors: putting a small dab of aquaphor (or any clear substance) on the casing turns it into a regular light, which is actually useful.

I think the Cayenne gets remodeled for 2018. I poked around at these when I ordered my GLE Coupe.

(Trying to negotiate a GLE400 right now) To the OP and other GLE400 owners.....are there any options you do or don't like with those "regrets"? Any must have things?
(Also, do they all come with the rear seat pre wiring and heat/cooled cup holders?)

i wish it came with the standard magic ambience light (my msrp was deducted $250 as I was told that this is a result of supply shortage) as it would have made a huge difference at night imho. I also wish I have the night package, convenience package, and driver assist. But i think the LED headlight is a must.

I'm trying to get mine ordered today too. Only found one in the nation optioned like we wanted but it had "saddle brown" interior and it was a deal breaker. Oh well, let's see which one gets to them faster.

What was the delivery time that your MB told you?

I'm in Canada so not sure that matters but he said May . Was hoping to have it for early spring but no dice. He mentioned there was a one with our spec right now but the black was a deal breaker as my girlfriend insisted on the metallic black. I think ordering the metallic paint (and waiting) was the right decision. My build is quite simple but as follows:

GLE350d SUV
Obsidian Black Metallic/Black Artico Leather
Premium Package
Sport Package
Lighting Package
Running Boards

I kind of regret not getting the Night Package because I wanted the black window trim but I think with a bit of effort on my part I can vinyl wrap it myself.

What's your build?
