Cellphone Mirroring for Comand

Instead of retrofitting Apple Carplay, has anyone successfully install a video interface that allows for your cellphone to mirror to the screen in your GLE similar to the video below? If so, any ideas on which video interface box to use and ideas on the installation process?

i don't think that is in many of the us models. also, it appears you then have to use the usb port. which means you have to have a wire sticking out or leave your phone in the armrest. i doubt the armrest has a cell booster inside (someone PLEASE correct me). why couldnt there be a usb port under the command headunit? ron

actually, the cellphone is connect to the headunit via wifi, so there's should be no need to fiddle around with the usb.

As for why there isn't any usb input, almost all other makers (i.e. toyota, nissan, vw, etc.) all have usb input exposed and conveniently located in nearby the headunit. I am not sure why MB decided that the usb input needs to be deeply hidden inside the center console.

the diagram at 18 seconds says you can connect either via HDMI or wifi.

i'm confused. that wiring diagram shows the interface to the command as a cable with a few other downstream peripherals. is this android auto or some other after market product? when i checked android auto, MB wasn't listed as a brand. i remember other researching where i "thought" i saw the new C having it. ron

this is in the form of miracast or airplay that allows either the iphone or adriod device to mirror with the comand screen, which means you can have feature similar to carplay such as google map on the comand screens, streaming youtube, etc. I am just wondering if anyone has done it on the GLE as I would like to find out how the wiring schematic looks like. I am guessing no one has done it for the GLE so far.

I noticed this huge disclaimer:

DO NOT OPERATE OR GET DISTRACTED BY THE COMAND WHEN DRIVING

This accessory just encourages more distracted driving. Whether you're playing with your phone directly, or via COMAND, your eyes are off the road, where they should be. Android Auto is designed to be primarily voice activated. You can make phone calls, send text msgs, use navigation (Google Maps) or play music without ever looking at the screen.
