Aluminuim door lock pins for GLE W166
Has anyone here changed his door lock pins with any kind of aluminium ones? I didn't want to order the OEM AMG pins because here they cost about 50 Euro EACH, which is a crazy price for what it is. Ordered third party pins from Ebay, the seller stated they match the ML W166 and GLE W166, but when I placed them, they are thinner and look loose once in place, they are so thin that they even move all ways round because the hole for the original plastic pin is at least 2-3 mm wider. I saw a pic of ML W166 with pins changed and looks nice and well fitting, the owner of the vehicle measured them and told me they are 8mm in diameter, mine are 8mm as well, but obviously the door lock pins for the GLE are thicker. Please share what is the diameter of yours in case you are satisfied with them and where did you order from.
Thanks in advance!

I didn't know there are silver plastic pins, hope they are more reasonably priced than the AMG ones. Can you share their product number to make a search where I can buy them from? Thanks for the help!

they cost much less than the amg ones, and I don't think they look much worse than AMG
you need the pins and the adapters
the pin is A 099 766 01 00 2A17
The adapter is A 099 766 00 00

There are two types of third party AMG door lock pins, thin and thick
The thiner ones are used on A, CLA, and a few more
The thicker ones are used on C class (w205) and they cost a bit higher
GLE and C-class has the same OEM door pins part numbers (black plastic), so you need to get THICK lock pins from W205, thats it
You can get here for example
http://www.ebay.com/itm/For-15-Merce...IAAOSw44BYHuoL
Seller says
- These door pins are designed to be thicker in diameter to suit the NEW C-Class model.

Does it matter that they are smooth? I can't remember the last time I actually touched one to open a door. Current technologies seem to pretty much make them obsolete, IMO.

Very true. You make a good point. Now that I think about it, it's more a matter of aesthetics than functionality. Personally, I prefer the textured design. It has a serious look to it. To each his own I guess.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the idea about these pins, look great and cost only about 25 Euro all. In locked position they still stay slightly protruding although I don't find it annoying. Thought of correcting their length but decided to go like this.

Well assuming these work for w166 ML350 was a stupid idea... I bought these for ~$45 shipped just to find out they are too thick to fit into the whole on a 2013 ML350. So if anyone want them you can have them all four (base and cover) for $10 plus shipping to you. One of the silver "cover" has a slight mark from my pliers when I tried to pull it out.
