2017 GLE 800 miles, seemingly bad fuel economy so far. Curious what others get
Hey everyone,
So far I've been enjoying my 2017 GLE 4MATIC, but not the fuel economy.
At 800 miles I'm averaging 16.8mpg doing a pretty even split of highway and city driving. Typical highway is around 60mph (Oregon speed limits) and city is 35-40mph. Not a ton of stop/go; usually traffic flows pretty well.
To me 16.8mpg seems pretty low on a car that is estimated at 18/22. I don't drive with the AC on, windows down, or sunroof open most of the time (generally Oregon's temperatures are pretty tolerable about 10 months out of the year). I don't have a lead foot, am usually the only passenger, and don't have anything in the back of the vehicle.
Curious what others are getting in theirs and if there's some option kept on by default in the factory settings that can ding fuel economy. I was kind of expecting to fall in the 19 to 20 range honestly.

I think it's the city driving that you're not getting better gas mileage because it takes some gas to get 5000 pounds rolling. With my ML350 Diesel I would get 27mpg if it was 100% highway driving, in the city it was 13mpg and on average I got 22-23mpg. My 2017 GLS450 has about 400 miles on it and so far the average is 13 but it's mostly city driving and I think once it's broken in, it gets better. I assume you have a GLE350 with the 3.5 liter V6 and the AMG43 has a 3.0 liter biturbo, I would expect to get better gas mileage with the smaller engine.
And btw I wouldn't turn off the AC, it's supposed to regulate the humidity and not just temperature plus in the old days AC's would brake faster if turned off for longer periods, not sure if that's still the case.

I have 2015 ML350 4 matic and have constantly averaged 21 mpg over 40,000 miles. I keep my tire pressure at 36 lbs all the way around and don't be me up but have always used mid level grade fuel 89 Octane. Do very little real city stop and go driving mostly suburbs.

like others, sounds a little low. do you have extended "warm up" times? i get 25 on the highway (a little north of 65). have you checked accuracy of the calculation? also, i believe it is not aggregate mpg, but rather a more recent calc. don't know for sure, but it seems to be that way based on my driving (so recent city would bring down the average). good luck, ron
