Question 2016 GLE350d vs 2015 ML 350 Bluetec (Canada)

Hi gang,

I few years ago I got a GLK 250 and LOVED IT, and after the lease was up on that one made the mistake on getting an Audi Q5 (I don't like the wheel controls at all) and now thinking of ditching it for a ML/GLE size vehicle especially after our family grew.

I am looking for basically a fully loaded BTC (pre-collision etc), and I'm wondering if anyone has experience or have driven both, and what's the feedback. Also, where I am (Vancouver, Canada) the GLEs tend to be about 10-15k over the MLs, wondering if that's worth it (especially after the province's new "luxury vehicle tax")

As it is almost certain that's it's a second hand, I think I'll be buying this out right rather than leasing. If there's anything I should be aware of since this is a diesel engine, it would be great to know too (I already read through http://www.stephensservice.com/ and his blogs)

Thanks in advance

not an expert on Diesels, but I think MB went from a 6 cylinder in 2015 to 4 cylinder in 2016 here in the US. Most people prefer the 6 cylinder

Odd, I believe they kept it the v6 here in Canada...

Buy a Bluetec ML350 with less than 30000KM on it or stick with ML550
Higher milage Bluetec bad news unless you have proof the oil was changed every 7500KM

Reason I say ML is the transmission on GLE went to 9 speed, it's too many gears for that car with that amount of torgue. 7 speed nicer ride.

Sounds like you haven't driven the GLE with the 9 speed yet. It is much more responsive and less clunky than the 7 speed. I can cruise in 9th gear at much lower rpms which is more quiet and saves gas.
One other advantage of the GLE vs ML is the drive selector. The GLE with steel springs is in comfort mode almost as comfy as the ML with Airmatic.
I'm not a fan of how the iPad style screen looks but the picture is bigger and super clear.

Currently own a GLE350d and ML350d prior. pretty good idea how they both drive.
Sure the 9th gear does run lower RPM, but not by enough for most driving as it hardly gets there, now if you had Autobahn...
The comfort mode on ML/GLE car with steel springs....higher sidewall on the tires

Looks like the transmission is the big one. But I think there's a few more differences. Managed to dig up a "What's New" dm from Mercedes.

Looks GLE is the way to go. Now the difficulty is to find a used one or to take over someone's lease... (dealer markups here on the West coast of Canada are crazy...)

Thanks for the nice pictures. I'm actually looking for a SUV rather than a coupe...
