I completely agree. When we all have a chance to sit in and drive the new GLE and experience it in person we may feel quite different. I think the dual 12.3" screens must be challenging when designing the dashboards. Some recent spy photos of the 2022 S Class suggest split screens, one screen behind the steering wheel, and another (hidden) for the infotainment systems. I think that approach makes sense and gives the engineers and designers more options.

Check out this new video. It appears this is the final release.

Nothing new in this video. Someone made this using the photos posted two weeks ago, see post #10. The next real look at the GLE may be official photos from MB,

I think I might be the only one in the world who's sick of touchscreens already. They're always covered in fingerprints.

Nope! You and I both, and for the exact same reason. One good thing I can say about MBUX is that they give you alternate methods of accessing the UI. Apparently, they realized not everyone is keen on having a screen full of smudges. Ugh!

I suspect the engineers included the touch-screen to cover all the bases. Most owners will likely use the thumb pads on the steering wheel and/or the touch pad. But since none of us have yet to use the new MBUX system, we'll have to wait and see.

My wife's BMW has touch screen and it is so much easier to use. Yes there are smudges but navigating through the screens and picking the different options is much faster. I really like hers other than the fact than no matter what button anywhere on the dash, center console, or touch screen you touch or brush against, it turns the radio, air, heat, whatever on just like the car is running. It is a pain in the you know where when I'm cleaning it. But back to the original post topic, touch screens are faster! IMO.

Not when you compare the loooong reach to the screen with using the thumbpads on the new steering wheel. If you use a touchpad, smartphone or mouse practically all day every day, you can whiz through menus in an instant. It all depends on how technologically savvy one is.

Maybe we should put thumbpads on smart phones? Let's ask blackberry how that turned out. Haha. Yes the smudges are bad but touch screens, as I type on my tablet screen, are faster. Or maybe.....gesture control? Unless you talk with your hands and who knows where the connectedDrive will end up! Hopefully, like our M550i, Mercedes will give the option of both to make everyone happy.

I like the grab handles. It provides something to hold onto during a long constant speed drive on the interstate (motorway, autobahn). My previous German SUV had a console shift lever and I am in the habit of using it as a hand rest or grip.

I don’t prefer touch screens. I like the look of the pre-2019 GLE COMAND non-touch screen. My previous vehicle had a touch screen with a matte surface, so smudges were not real obvious. I am getting used to the COMAND interface and it is more elegant in my view than a touch screen.

It looks a lot more polished on the Cayenne. Looks like they were an afterthought on the GLE just to spice things up last minute.
