Map update!
WTF? $275 for an update?
i can buy a brand new Garmin standalone with lifetime maps and traffic for less.![wall](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/banghead.gif)
i just did my Subaru. $60 and about 20 minutes from start to finish. And it's a better nav system.
a vent. ron

thx. looks like $130 from them. i had them send me the instructions. just concerned about blowing out any of the Command electronics. not interested in having a car that needs to be towed to the dealer because nothing works ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
anybody go this route? how'd you do?
thx again, ron

Seems to be the tip of the ice berg with pricing on just about everything. Some say it's the price for luxury, but I bought my GLE350 more for what it could do for me for towing than the prestige of the brand name. In the back of my mind I'm clinging to the glimmer of hope that someone at companies like Mercedes realize that not everyone has unlimited disposable cash, is that gullible, or forgot that there is more than one brand to buy if a repeat customer is a goal.

thx all.
the thing i've always liked about MB is that "in general" you get what you pay for, depending on model. meaning there's a lot of engineering and materials in their cars. some models do have the "demand" pricing built in.
that said, i'm going to have the dealer do the map update. after going thru the MBnavupdate.com install process instructions they make it clear it will take between 1 and 2 hours to complete the update. and if anything goes wrong i have to resolve it. the map cost plus install time pretty much accounts for the dealer charge. however, this is stupid, stupid engineering.
the Subaru probably uses a licensed map with a large install base, which would account for lower cost. and they definitely streamlined the update process.
thx again, ron

I went to the link https://mbnavupdate.com/, and through their Live Chat today received the following information:
"The latest update for your 2016 GLE is NTG 5s1 v13. Just released 2020 update. All information is on the website" The cost is $130.00.
"The latest update for your 2016 GLE is NTG 5s1 v13. Just released 2020 update. All information is on the website" The cost is $130.00.
When I went into the setting I saw that my 2016 GLE 400 is equipped with 2015/2016 (V4.0) N. America map.
I'm not sure if I can jump from my map version to the newest latest map version or do I need to gradually update each version to get it up-to-date ?

yes, they quoted $130 for me also. but the 1 to 2 hours of start to finish update kinda turned me. that's the extra $145 in dealer labor. it's in the shop so we'll see how it goes.

just got it back and all seems well. they basically charged me for the map plus a few bucks. it wasn't a cheap service so they got their pound of flesh no matter. ![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
thx for the help. ron

What area are you at ?. In local Orange County CA (6 MB dealers with 50 miles radius), I called & checked the NAVIGATION update with them for ours 2012's (E & ML), none of them are less than $300.00. You are lucky to have the MB charge that little. If you are in SoCal please PM me the dealer that did the update. Thanks.

I've seen the map image change when connected, and some may or may not like the different appearance either. For me, it's my first car with Apple CarPlay so I'm still exploring the features and operation.

Personally I find the MB navigation more sophisticated than the crayon drawing CarPlay from Apple. I also think CarPlay is a bit fidgety and changes what's on the car screen when someone is using the phone for something unrelated at the same time. I wish it would just leave the map up but it seems like they haven't quite got the UI model right yet. I do like that the maps are updated faster but CarPlay still feels kludgy.

I don't know about others but I received a coupon from MBUSA when my ML was about 4 years old. $95 for the update. No extra charges by the dealer. As for CarPlay folks who always travel in areas with cell service seem to like it. We often travel in very remote areas with no cell service. The in car nav has always displayed an accurate map - even when turn by turn directions are not available.

I plan on using mbnavupdate.com for my next map upgrades. The process for installing their maps is identical to the dealer. When I purchased my CPO 2013 SL550 last year, it had the original maps on it. The dealer wanted to charge me a ridiculous price to install the update. After I explained to them the update process, they agreed it was stupid to charge me while the car sits running while the update installs itself. The install fee ended up being $99 for the maps (MB had it discounted) plus $15 to install.

Did my map update at the dealer MbofSA. MB is so high tech that it took all day to do a map update. Computers slow on the day. Unbelievable BS.
I was cheated out of my Nav update. In the last 4 years I’ve asked 3 times for it to be updated and told that it was. Even found a work order record that it was done in 2019. So now no more warranty but my advisor says let me check and ooops you have one more, last update, for free. Before I brought my car in and do and check my Nav ver and it’s V4 from 2016 ?????? I was furious. It’s never been updated by the scumbags. Of course I brought It UO to my advisor and she was like oh ok let check it out. This is no way to treat customers of expensive luxury vehicle. That’s why never trust the “experts” always check yourself. Unfortunately that’s how it is here. I don’t like babysitting people. Ridiculous sick of excuses. Then they wasted a whole day to do a simple update. I can’t believe we live in 2020 ??? They must still be using dial-up internet. Sorry for the rant but I’m saying far away for Mercedes. 4 years of BS. Unacceptable customer service full of excuses. Go ahead and keep your $75K vehicle.

Thanks, I will look into it, I'm also waiting on (2) local MB dealer's to get back to me on pricing.

The download takes about 30 mins(Appx size 25GB.Fios d/l 300mbs) and takes 1-1 1/2 Hours write on your usb stick(it depend on your pc write speed). It will take about 1-2 hours update on your car. The map pin code it will costs you around $100-150USD. This is DIY VS dealer
