Hi, so I share a 2017 GLE350 with my brother, I get the car every other weekend and so does he. So we want to maintain the engine and not be bothered with constant expensive oil changes 3-4 times a year.
We decided on two synthetics that we will use but we are at a stalemate, he wouldn't even agree to a heads or tails tiebreaker.
I like Amsoil and he likes Mobil 1. Mobil one would burn in my previous vehicle (it was not a benz but still) and the Amsoil did not burn. After 3-4 months I would have to top it off when using Mobil 1.
So I came up with this idea to just put half and half of both oils. Can I do that? Will it cause any issues? My brother agreed to mix the two but I could not find any info on mixing two different brands to get the best of both worlds of oil protection. I know this sounds wacky but I am tired of arguing about it. All opinions welcomed and thank you for your time.
If people recall back to the day when it was just conventional oil changed at 3000 mile intervals and then one day people "switched" to their favorite brands and types as semi-synthetic and synthetic oils became available. What's available is different than what any given vehicle rolled off the assembly line with so in the end I'd say keeping the oil level up and regular oil changes is what's important.
I know I love 10,000 mile oil changes and who knows, maybe using less oil over the life of a vehicle will help curb our dependency on foreign oil. I just wish oil change centers, at least locally for me, would stop advertising 3000 mile oil change intervals- it's just not needed when 5000 plus miles is the norm.

Among all that I have learned here on MBWorld, one is that supposedly, MB keeps the cost for getting MB approval for fluids very reasonable. They don't want any company to ever claim that their product meets MB specs, and the only reason they didn't get approval, is that the process is cost prohibitive. MB wants their customers to be able to depend upon products that can be found in BEVO. With this in mind, I am extremely hesitant to use any fluid that claims to meet MB specs, but isn't on the list.
I totally understand that others may choose to use them, sing accolades about how the fluids perform, and recommend them to others. But I will continue to use BEVO to select fluids for my MB cars.
This is old thread, but the same issue all other oil threads have.
With lab test easily available for 20-some bucks, people still chose the oils base on religious believes for their $20,000 engines.
