2016 GLE350 4Matic- collapsed engine mounts
My vehicle was due for A9 service at 70K miles. I have the 7 year 100K extended warranty. The service rep just advised me that my Engine and Transmission mounts have reached the point of where they are considered collapsed. It’s covered under warranty however parts not available in USA at the moment. Also my side mirrors would sometimes squeak when folding. They are replacing those under warranty too. I’m glad I bought the extended warranty but I’m scared owning this vehicle. MB quality and reliability has gone out the window. Ive had the vehicle since new, 4 years now. Vehicle is garage kept, 15K mike’s per year. Don’t understand how can the engine and transmission mounts to collapse. I would understand if it was a well used old vehicle but cmon now.

Are the engine mounts expensive to replace ? Is it a big job ? I wonder blue much it costs , if I don’t have extended warranty

1998 SLK2502 different mechanics told me I had collapsed motor mounts and I noticed that I could feel the motor vibration, especially in reverse and when shutting off the engine. So I purchased a new pair online for $90 and the transmission mount for $18. Without the proper jacks to change them myself, I took it to Vaughn Motorwerks for repair. Labor was $200 (2.5hrs) and the car feels much smoother now. In case anybody is curious what collapsed mounts look like I've attched photos. Notice the oil that has leaked out of one of them. In all reality, for a luxury vehicle, that is really cheap. The X166 is a great platform and affordable to own. Can't say the same about any of the premium MB's I've owned. Anything with ABC has been a nightmare and not just from the suspension. In my opinion, the X166 chassis is probably MB's most reliable and cheapest to own long term vehicle.

In all reality, for a luxury vehicle, that is really cheap. The X166 is a great platform and affordable to own. Can't say the same about any of the premium MB's I've owned. Anything with ABC has been a nightmare and not just from the suspension. In my opinion, the X166 chassis is probably MB's most reliable and cheapest to own long term vehicle.

I certainly hope MB isn't unreliable- overall. I've heard "well you own a luxury vehicle, what do you expect?", and the answer is simple- it's quality and reliability. Who wouldn't want to pay Ford or Chevy prices for repairs if what they bought was frequently in the shop for repairs or expected to have reasonably priced oil changes. While owning a MB being a luxury vehicle is true, it shouldn't translate to "you're an idiot if you do own a luxury vehicle." Knock on wood, I'm seeing good reliability with my W166 GLE350 and hope I see continued reliability.

I certainly hope MB isn't unreliable- overall. I've heard "well you own a luxury vehicle, what do you expect?", and the answer is simple- it's quality and reliability. Who wouldn't want to pay Ford or Chevy prices for repairs if what they bought was frequently in the shop for repairs or expected to have reasonably priced oil changes. While owning a MB being a luxury vehicle is true, it shouldn't translate to "you're an idiot if you do own a luxury vehicle." Knock on wood, I'm seeing good reliability with my W166 GLE350 and hope I see continued reliability.
im starting to think it’s true. If I’m laying high pieces, the vehicle should be good quality and reliable. Unfortunately it isn’t. For me it’s a mute point. I’m seriously considering trading it for the Hyundai Palisade. Car and Driver review said that the Palisade is luxury compared to Mercedes. And it has better reliability and comes with 10 year powertrain warranty

You think the car isn't reliable because the mirrors squeak and the engine mounts are collapsed at 70k miles? The engine mounts are hydraulic.. it's a trade off. These should be viewed as consumables on these cars.

Engine mounts are rubber, and a wear item just like your tires. 70k miles/5 years is about right for replacement. If you're too cheap to maintain a Mercedes, ask yourself if the few hundred dollars is worth your safety. I'd trust MB over Hyundai in a heavy collision.
We own 5 MB's in the family. My '08 ML350 has the highest mileage at 173k. It's been very reliable, and guess what, I put new engine mounts in it last year. It rides like a dream. Your W166 is just as good if not better. My friends Hyundai blew the engine at 108k and it's not even worth fixing. They are disposable cars.
Do you use the eco stop a lot? That may be why you're having battery problems. The oem MB batteries can last up to 7 years in cars without the eco function, which I personally cannot stand.

Hyundai and Kia recently agreed to pay a $210 million civil penalty for failing to recall 1.6 million vehicles for engine bearing issues in a timely fashion. That penalty was for recalls in 2015 and 2017.

OK, so we have some with a stinky AC system. Easily resolved/cleaned but, admittedly, not up to par with standards. Not sure how massive the settlement is since I currently have two X166's and it hasn't been an issue on mine nor have I been notified.
On the OM642 diesel, they didn't go far enough on that engine. Check my posts since I've been very critical of the engine for over a decade and have warned all to stay away. MB's are not perfect and do have issues but not like we've seen in other vehicles. Honestly, if you want ultra reliable, get a Toyota Camry.
The issues you posted are not that of reliability problems but do I feel the diesel is not reliable. Goes to show that Hyundai has serious quality control issues and seemingly uses inferior engine parts based on the recall. Cars catching on fire due to engine failure at a rate high enough to force the NHTSA to recall is very very bad. Hyundai and Kia have come a long way and I generally like their vehicles but I'm not sure I want to go that route for long term reliability or safety. The 164 & 166 do extremely well in crashes and that's from personal experience. The previous generation X164 GL never had a death from an automobile accident reported. There are other safe cars but MB is at the top of the spectrum. Mercedez Benz GL-class - Deadliest (and safest) cars on the road - CBS News I remember that one of the deaths in the ML was from a person driving in front of a train and, if I recall correctly, was not wearing a seatbelt.

I don't hate on Hyundai/Kia. We've owned cars from them and they have all be great. I actually adore the Gen2 Kia Soul.
All of our cars have had AC mildew issues except the E-class, oddly enough. The Porsche had it. Our Toyota had it, so did our Lexus, and our Hyundai and Kias. The Benz is running a Mann Frecious Plus cabin filter which may be what is keeping it smelling so fresh.
The point is that this gasoline powered 166 chassis vehicle is reliable, but Mercedes is simply more maintenance intensive than most of the Asian rivals.

My last and final suggestion is to get those terrycloth towel seat covers for your Hyundai. I'd bet they'll fit your personality just perfectly, and it will protect your seats when you go to jiffy lube with your 10% off coupon.

Now, my wife’s GLC300 started shaking when she turns the engine on. 36K miles and I guess it needs to have the engine mounts replaced too.
Mercedes quality is sliding downhill fast.

Motor mounts collapsed. Diagnosed by dealer. They want $3,844.19 . 2017 with 55k miles. This is not a "consumable" item at this kind of cost..
