Lowering Module OBD-2 Plug-and-play Airmatic

Posted this on someone else's thread, figured it needed its own. For anyone wanting to lower your GLE I highly recommend getting the lowering module OBD. Comes preset with Stock, Low, and Custom settings. Plug it in, set up how low you want to go, confirm, and your suspension begins to adjust. Costs about $510 not including shipping. Great customer service as well, despite the time difference (they're located in Belarus) they answered all of my questions in a timely manner. You just need to send them your VIN# to make sure their module will work with your model. I'm in no way affiliated with the company, just wanted to pass on the information

The reason they need (or want) the VIN is not as much to make sure it is compatible (it is absolutely compatible with all W166 airmatics, as with most other MB airmatics), but to code the module to a given VIN. It means that if one no longer wants that lowering module, it can not be re-sold as it will not work on any other car. It is a common practice and as long as people do not object (continue buying "married" to a single specific VIN products), it will continue.

I wasn't planning on selling it, so I guess I'm good.

The point is not about re-selling, but about the ability to use it in a different MB airmatic car (one's next MB car). By VIN coding the lowering module is how "they" make sure it can not.

I am not saying that one buys a single module, then lowers a number of cars (say one has several MBs and one's friends have a few). Obviously they'll have no sustainable business. But lets say down the road you want to lower your new/next MB car - you can't unless they will re-code the module, which they won't do, making you buy a new one.

I 100% understood what you meant. Its smart business, I wouldn't blame them. Just like how Netflix is beginning to cracking down on account sharing.

Yes not unique to them, Renntech VIN codes too. On course for the price of one Renntech lowering module, one can buy lowering modules for three different cars from these guys. I would rather have them to develop a module to be inserted in OBD port "permanently" in order to be able to lower. Once taken out you can no longer lower (unless you re-insert and reprogram), but this will give us an ability to use it in a different/new car since it is not VIN coded (kinda like Dinan piggy chip for our engines works - it is engine specific rather than VIN specific).

I'm interested in these modules, but I wondered what happens to the height, if anthing when you swap between Sport, Comfort and off-road. Do they still change and if so, by how much?

Thanks.

Speaking from my experience, whatever height you set up your module too will be become the new default height at "Comfort". So when you go to "Sport+" mode, it'll drop even lower, I haven't measured it but my guess its the same amount of drop from factory settings. My settings on the module are "Low" and when switch to "Sport+" the stance gets real low where you sacrifice comfort, but looks slick as hell!! The company is in Belarus, so with what's going on over there not sure if they're taking orders or not, but definitely reach out to them if your interested.

Thanks for that - it's what I was hoping

I occasionally use it off road, but nothing that needs the full height, so a drop should be fine.

No problems since lowering it? I see it's been about a year?

Cheers

No problems, maybe a little more tire wear but that's expected when you lower your suspension. I keep my module in the glove compartment just incase I need it. I love the fact I can go from factory height to car show low in a matter of seconds.

To my understanding, it works for all Airmatic systems. But definitely reach out to them to confirm.

I can confirm that it works on the GLE350d. I got mine from Most Wanted Mods. Paul was very helpful. This is the lowest. I've not driven it yet, so can't comment on the ride. Will do tomorrow though. This is on Sport setting.

Can you lower it through the STAR tool scanner. Instead of buying a module or some sort?

I honestly don't know. But if you could, I'd imagine someone on this forum has done it already.

Thanks! Tempted, but there's a limit as to how much you can tint the fronts here in the UK.

There's a limit here too in most states in the US, but everyone still gets them done. Most tint shops like mine ask to pay in cash so no paper trail and deniability. If I were to get pulled over, I'd just say I bought the car like that and didn't know

I had tinted my front windshield (green tint) I only did 50% had to match the 20% green tint all around. Never got bothered for the tint on my track/show vehicle.

Hey man!
How low did you lower the suspension here? Do you drive at this height? Did it make a big difference in comfort?

I used one of these:
https://mwmods.com/index.php/product...-w166-gle350d/

Yes, I drive like it sometimes, but mostly a little higher due to the comfort suffering a bit.
