GLE 350 (2017): Quickly turning off display

Hi. Does anyone know if there's a super easy way to turn off the console display? I know, using CarPlay, that I can go into the Mercedes CarPlay app and navigate to turn off the display but it seems like there should be a faster way. Sometimes I just don't want the distraction of the display and it's too many clicks to turn the display off using the MB CarPlay app. Thanks!

You could set up a shortcut to it. See the manual for instructions.

Why does one need to look up instructions on how to set up a short cut when MB has already provided a large "ON" (off) knob for it right in the middle of the dash?

A better question is why would someone want to turn off the display?

I believe what he is trying to accomplish is darken the display, but leave everything “on” underneath the darkened display…. I think….but I am not totally sure…..

Right. I should've noted that turns everything off including the ability to hear music playing. I'm looking for a way to keep music playing (or navigation going with CarPlay) but just have the screen go dark.

Yes, that's right. Sorry I didn't clarify that earlier. I want the music to keep playing or podcast/navigation to still work, just the display off. You should all try it sometime, it's kind of nice to focus on the road instead of having CarPlay always on (or Android Auto if you have an Android phone)

Alright. I got this working as a Favorite function (not easy to figure out, MB controls are really hard to navigate) but here's the rub. This favorite shortcut only works if you DO NOT use CarPlay (and I'm assuming Android Auto). I still don't know a way to turn the display off quickly (and keep audio, navigation, podcast playing, etc in the background). I'm surprised MB doesn't offer this feature. There are physical buttons that are actually unmapped in my vehicle (next to my heated seat button as an example).
