2016 GLE Mirror puddle lights with MB logo

Hi all,
My GLE has puddle lights in the bottom of the mirrors which come on when you unlock the car at night. I think they are supposed to project a circular MB logo on the ground, but mine look like sort of a woodland scene with no particular image, so I'm thinking maybe the projectors are worn/ faulty /dirty or someone has replaced with some very odd aftermarket projectors (unlikely).

I had a couple of queries - firstly, do all 2016 GLEs project the logo on the ground (mine's an AMG line with 360 cameras)?

Finally, if my projectors are faulty, does anyone know how to find the MB spare part number?

Thanks

If it's not on a 43 or 63, it's just an AMG styling kit. You don't list the 166 type in your profile. It helps when others know what model you have so the advice can be provided for your model. My 2018 clearly displaces the MB logo on the ground. Odds are the puddle lights are dirty and they are the ones that just project light on the ground.

Thanks for the nudge, I'm new to the forum so not too sure about the correct car details to put in the profile.

So the lights project quite a clearly defined circle on the ground rather than a flood of light. I'll take some pictures when I get back to the car over the next few days.

It's generally an option... look up your vin to see if it's on your vehicle from factory. On my build sheet it's listed as option #587 mirror logo projector

Just done a VIN lookup and my car has #587 mirror logo projection, so either projectors are faulty, or dirty somehow. I'll still upload a picture when I get a chance, see if anybody's had a similar thing. Now to see if the logo projectors are available....

I have it on my 2016. Mine look like this. I notice that the light switch need to be on Automatic for the logo projection to light up. Once you turn the motor off and open the door.

Looks like something cracked, can you use a piece of paper to gather the light and see if you can make out what shape or icon it is?

I've tried the paper and it doesn't make it any clearer. My guess is that there was some thin plastic stencil inside the logo lights and it's melted for some reason. The only thing that can cause that is heat, and parts of the car have been wrapped (but not the mirrors) so maybe someone used a heat gun? It's very odd, that's for sure.

Anyway, can anyone help me with the MB part number for the logo projectors? If they're available, I'll buy a couple and install them myself.
I had a quick look on the MB parts finder website but couldn't see the logo projectors listed.

For the Plain MB star. The new part number is 213-820-45-03 it replaces:166-820-59-00, 213-820-07-03, 213-820-45-03-64.

I can't find the other design like mine.

A2138204503, replacing A2138200703 and A1668205900 are the below-door projectors of the Mercedes Star, as where I have the AMG logo in my photo, not the below-mirror projectors.

I took a look through EPC for this, and looking at the mirrors, the only part that I can see that is conditional on option #587 is the lower cover trim for the mirrors on each side. From google, it does appear that the genuine OEM part does include the mirror puddle light projector as a part of the lower cover trim with a small wire & connector coming from it, but that information is not present on EPC and I cannot guarantee that. The parts would be:

Left Mirror Lower Cover Trim: A2928103300 / A2928103500 / A2928104500 / A2928104700

Right Mirror Lower Cover Trim: A2928103400 / A2928103600 / A2928104600 / A2928104800

To work out which is correct for your car would require your VIN. Hope this helps!

If you send me a PM with your VIN I can look it up for you. At a guess, the 4 different parts for each side would be the two different style of logo projection (cut-out star emblem or star emblem + pattern + full wreath ) and whether it has the cut-out hole for the mirror-mounted 360 camera option or not.

Hi there,
Yes, I replaced the mirror lower trim covers which come supplied with the LED projector modules in them. Once you buy the covers you can always take out the projectors if you want to use the old ones, but I changed my ones for new ones because it was less hassle. After that, the projectors were like new. I found some installation videos on youtube which helped a lot, and you just need to be careful when taking our the mirror glass because mine had a heater defrost element in the mirror which is held on by very flimsy looking wires which are held in place by spade connectors which seemed to be stuck and wouldn't come off easily. It's the type of job that you just need to take your time with and go carefully, but totally worth the effort in my opinion.

thanks Nick, can you please advise where did you buy the covers from, I can't find any online. And if you have the video links that would really help. BTW what was the original one, because mine is exactly the same as yours, was it damaged or is it actually an image?
