Heated Steering wheel and seats

So now that I am getting used to my new to me 2019 GLE400 I had a question. In my Jeep Grand Cherokee there's a setting for if its less than 40 degrees the heated seats and wheel come on automatically when you start the car. Alternatively if its over 70 out the cooling seats come on. I haven't found a setting for this, hoping somehow I missed it??

Also, whats up with the car shutting off when remote starting and opening the door? That threw me for a loop until it happened more than once.

Cant comment on seats but car will shutoff when door is open. Its a German thing, they think of security, they could simply ask for
Pushing Start Engine button when you got in and before you switch to D as other brands do.

My 2018 GLE43 doesn't have a setting for the heated / cooled seats other then level of on or off.

Auto seat and wheel heat didn’t exist on W166. My wife’s BMW has the feature. Not sure if I like it.

Engine off when door unlocked during remote start is normal operation.

I figured as much, got used to it with the Jeep, its not like its hard to do. I like the physical buttons better as the jeep you had to go to a menu on the screen.

Hi everyone -
Just to throw this out there -- our remote starter solution offers both auto-on features for cooled / heated seats (above or below preset temperatures, respectively), and the engine stays on until you do a key takeover (generally a button press of the engine start button).

Check out our coverages!

Came across it in the Owner manual on my 2016 GLE400 - Page 139 - Activating or deactivating "Pre-entry climate control via Smartkey"
You need a on-board computer to activate to climate control function for up to 5 minutes for pre-heating and pre-cooling same for seat heating, seat ventilation and Ionization.

I searched the 2017 owner's manual for "Pre-entry climate control via Smartkey" and didn't see anything. Maybe it was a short-lived feature?

I found that manual says you can activate seat ventilation if you use smart key to roll down windows. Page 86 and 99... doesn't help if you want to preheat anything!

@whitewagon What model year is the owner’s manual that you posted? The 2017 MY manual (all models) does not have that page 139.

Let me look into my manual to see what page 86 and 99.

That page is from the 2016 GLE manual.

Page 86 in my manual is Doors and page 99 is sliding sunroof.

I clicked onto this thread to share my experience with Mid City Engineering and am glad to see I was beat by them. I was going to say they offered those features you are seeking in a better solution than anything MB had to me. I have their remote start and also auto off deactivate on my car. Both work very well. The downside is you will want to purchase a 3rd key before you use them because one key will be relegated to that service and be forever in the car (safely, not active unless a signal has been sent to it). I have my heated seats to come on at 50 or below I think and cooled seats set at 70 I believe. I also couldn't stand the car turning off when I remote started via MB ap and then touched the door to unlock. This is so backwards to me and just horrible mechanically. Why take an engine, have it running and turn it off to immediately start it again. The MCE one allows you to remote start and then get into your car and as long as you don't touch the brakes it remains on. To transfer the car from the key you use for the auto start you push the start button and it will switch to the key in your pocket or whatever so the rest of your experience is what you would expect out of any other auto start feature from every other company. I got the system to deal with hot weather more so than cold. My one complaint is I've noticed the AC no longer works when switching from remote started to being in the car. So it does cool but if it's very hot out and you start driving its like AC compressor turns off but fan remains on. The fix is turning the car off and back on using the normal key once you are in it...which is defeating the purpose of remote starting it. I've only noticed this on extremely hot days where I'm getting in and going a distance of say more than 10 minutes but it is frustrating none the less.
