2016 GLE brakes on one side when driving

For about the last 10 days my GLE will brake hard on one side when on the highway like it does when you are drifting into another lane but this happens during straight driving with no warning images or sounds. If you turn the traction control off it does not do this. During a 400 mile trip Friday happened approx 5 times until I tried driving with the traction control off, but then you cannot set the cruise.

Seems to have started after I had my rear tires replaced two weeks ago, but they are the same size and model Continentals that came off of it.

Anyone else experienced this?

The car brakes by itself?

How many miles on the vehicle?

When did you most recently replace the brake rotors and pads?

Please post your VIN to verify option content.

It brakes by itself?

How long have you owned this vehicle?

Where/who did you buy it from?

Is the vehicle braking by itself?

There are a few possible issues. Sounds like your car has active lane keep assist. You can deactivate on the central display via steering wheel controls. You may also have a sticking caliper. To fix, apply the proper grease to the rear brake slider pins. They can get corroded and will stick. With that said, your problem sounds more like a lane keep assist issue. Maybe a sensor is going bad and causing the pulsation. Either way, by turning off the active lane keep assist, your problem should go away. It won't be fixed but it should stop the brake pulsing on you.

Thanks @BlownV8 I turned this off and will see if the issue repeats itself. Hopefully it does not and I will know we narrowed the problem down to this system.

On the side that it's pulling towards I would check the sensors on that rear side . When they put the tires on something might of been damaged, like a sensor. Years ago I had a wheel bearing replaced on the front of a Ford Explorer when I was on the road for work. What I didn't know was when they did the work they damaged the antilock brake sensor on that wheel. I drove it for 500 miles or so back home with no issues. A week later I was driving along in traffic on a wet road When a car cut in front of the car in front of me. The three of us in the group that I was in all had to hit our brakes hard to avoid a collision. The guy in front of me braked hard and when I jammed on my brakes I had a antilock brake failure and skidded into the car in front of me, the vehicle behind me brakes also worked correctly. I had no indication that one of the wires on the antilock brake sensor was broken until I activated them a few weeks later. Yeah, I would take the wheel off and take a hard look at any sensors on that wheel.

I'm not sure what to look for, maybe someone on here can give you some more insight. I have a feeling the issue had something to do with the tire change. Let us know. Good luck...

Turned this off last night and driving today it still activated brakes on one side twice within 25 minutes of driving.

If the lane keep assist is off, it may be a bad wheel speed sensor or an intermittent short in the wire. If you can't find the problem, you should take it in for service and have them check. Could be dangerous on wet/slick roads.

Have not experienced this but it sounds like maybe one of the rear abs sensors is dirty, loose or not in the right place. That would tell the computer that one wheel was turning faster than the other and make it think that there was a loss of traction. Should be easy to check - just remove the rear tires and inspect.

Edit: for some reason the replies above were not showing when I initially opened this thread so my input is redundant. Sorry about that.
