Warning: Service Required. Do Not Shift Gears.
Hello, picked up a 2016 GLE 400 about a year ago and in the past few months, I've been receiving the message "Service required. Do not shift gears." At first, it was only every now and then, and the car drove fine after the message, but it's shown up more often now. It seems like it pops up between 3rd and 4th gear when I'm on the throttle. I also tend to drive in "Sport" mode with auto start off, and sometimes it'll violent jerk, like it skipped a gear, and automatically reset it back into "Comfort" mode and auto start on. I haven't noticed the jerk while in "Comfort" mode, but it'll still pop up with the message. I've looked through a few threads here from people with the same message, but usually it was a different model and they had issues where the car died while parked. Suggestions were usually to change the aux battery, but would that cause my car to violently jerk while in drive?

In the beginning it could have been a simple solenoid change or resetting the computer. Now you could have really damaged your transmission. Take it to the dealership or an independent shop.

Has about 55k miles. I haven't changed the transmission fluid yet and doubt previous owner had. Something I was looking to do at the next oil change. Just wanted to see if anyone else had experienced the same issues.

The transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 40k miles so it's well overdue.

2017 GLE 400 transmission issues- do not shift warning - leaking
Transmission issues while shifting and transfer case leaks. The car feels like it’s missing / drop shifting when in lower gears.
Message on dashboard stating “service required so not shift gears. Visit dealer”
Had in 5 times for trans repairs while under warranty. Just out of the 100k warranty and it’s back at the dealer for that 6th time because the trans case is still leaking and trans body value failed for that 2nd time in 1.5 years. Very frustrated and feel the transmission is bad and should have be replaced, but dealer kept saying it was fixed. Thoughts?
Anyone else having these issues?
summary of repairs below, although I’m pretty sure this issue was happening much more than I was aware of.
9/2020 miles 61k. Trans case fluid leak -radial shaft seal ring and input flange on transfer case seal repaired- under warranty.
1/2022 miles 80k. Trans case leak. Radial shaft seal ring and trans case seal replaced
9/22 miles 89k. Trans shifting horrible. Do not shift gear notice came up on dashboard. Replaced leaking park prawl actuator threaded plug. Replaced trans case adapter gasket, trans body valve -reman ctrr unit electrohyd and input flange on trans case seal.
9/23 miles 103k. Leaking trans fluid from trans case coming from lock prawl plug.
3/24 miles 110k. Leaking trans case. Lots of fluid on underside of vehicle. Trans body valve failed again and needs to be replaced.

You need to change the aux battery under the rear seat. It has died
