Bi turbo and twin turbo

I am looking to trade my ML 350 for a 2016 GLE 400. What is the difference between "twin turbos and bi turbos"?

No difference. The 2016 GLE400 uses the M276 3.0L V6 with two turbos, or biturbo, or twin turbo. The nomenclature is synonymous in this example.

Mercedes-Benz uses the marketing term "biturbo" on their website.

Thank you. A friend suggested bi turbo was a small one for low rpms and a larger one for higher rpms.

There is a difference if you want to be technical with the term.
Twin Turbo: 2 different size turbo chargers (Smaller Turbo for Low RPM and larger one for high RPM)
BiTurbo: are (2) same size turbochargers

I used to have a Nissan 300zx Twinturbo and the turbos were the same size.

Only MBs - the best or nothing
Directly from Google: "The term twin turbo has been often given to vehicles that use sequential turbos, a small one for low rpm torque, and a larger one for higher rpms and power. The biturbo system uses two equally sized turbos."

mbusa.com on engine in GLE43AMG and GLE63AMG:
  • Engine: AMG-enhanced 3.0L V6 biturbo or Handcrafted AMG 5.5L V8 biturbo
I always knew of twin turbo as a smaller and larger turbos sequentially, like on last generation of Supra TT Mk IV from the 90s. However, Nissan did cal its 90s 300ZX TwinTurbo instead of BiTurbo with parallel (same sized) turbos. Toyota used I6 and Nissan V6, hence maybe a naming difference.

why would TWIN turbo be different size turbos when the word TWIN is usually associated with 2 identical things like Twin sons.???

Talk about confusion for a non issue? See below

Twin means "having or consisting of two identical units"
Twin Definition & Meaning - Merriam-Webster

Bi means 2 or occurring 2 times

Would a "twin" boy and girl not be twins. ¿ LOL. Just having fun. It does seem backwards.
however, a little research . . .

The term "twin-turbo" was generally used before "bi-turbo" in Mercedes-Benz's marketing. Mercedes-Benz began using "twin-turbo" to describe its engines in the 1990s. The "bi-turbo" terminology started appearing more prominently in the early 2000s. Both terms describe the same twin-turbocharging technology, but the branding evolved over time.

Which engines in the past 15 years use sequential turbos?

GLE 43 HP Problem

I just purchased a 2018 GLE 43 after searching forever, checking the car fax and test drive. I didn’t have access to highway driving until the ride home. I punched it to pass and see what the vehicle had. I was horrified and had to switch back to the right lane. The rpms climbed but there was no power. I actually started to decelerate. I filled up with premium thinking the dealer used the cheapest gas possible. I have since filled up again. I have been monitoring the engine gauges on the infotainment screen and the HP maxes out at 100 exactly. Has anyone experienced a similar issue with their AMG? I can’t seem to find anything similar on the internet.

Sounds like a limp mode issue, you will need a scanner capable of reading Mercedes codes to identify what is causing the ECU to limit power.

Is that typically the case even if there are no indicators illuminated on the dash display?

Yes it happens, when there are no indicators such as check engine light, it would be a soft limp mode.
