You're supposed to negotiate the price before you sign the order and place that initial deposit.
Although I guess nothing stops you from negotiating after delivery... except the deposit your dealer is holding would give them more leverage.
Anyway, in terms of negotiating in general, I don't think anyone has been able to get a deal below MSRP in the last couple years or so.
When I ordered my GLE 63S Coupe, they tried to give me a 20k markup. I was only able to negotiate it down to a 10k markup.
Maybe things will be back to normal in another year, but for now I think getting a car at MSRP would be a win (sadly).
You can try to sweeten the deal for the dealership with things that you'd normally want anyway. Like if you already know you want an extended warranty and/or prepaid maintenance, then use those as bargaining chips.

yes, I do plan to get the extended warranty and maintenance package. I will try to negotiate that down if I can.

Paper with signature is the way to memorialize an agreement between the parties. Seek a written and signed price agreement and if this is not provided, walk. Should have been done up front, but that is water under the bridge now.

Let's hope that two things happened: he wrote a check and they deposited it. At least he would have claim on the car.
I check on whose car it is before I tried negotiating a price. Not a lot of leverage here.
Hope this turns out well, but I believe the car is worth over sticker, compared to the competition. About $20k over, in my shopping.

Sorry if I missed it but have they published prices on 2023 GLE 63 yet? I do see base MSRP of $120 which is about $4K more than 2022 build available on MBUSA.
I am hoping to find out more about 2023 facelift before ordering. MSRP is my target now but may be things will change in a few months?

2024 is supposed to be the facelift year with the bigger ipad like screen and the wheel with capacitive touch controls.

This was true when I ordered in October. I told my dealer to let me know if that changes and I can add it... they have not contacted me about it.
