I question not being able to start the ICE with a dead 12V. One would think the German Engineers would make a 48V ignition. It's been fun trying to figure out how things work on my 2023 MB. I've concluded It's built not to ask guestions, just to enjoy.

There's no question. The 12V battery powers the dashboard, ignition and everything. If the 12V battery is dead, you can't even unlock the car, and once you manage to get in using the physical key hidden inside the fob, everything will be dead including the engine start button.

Yes, here it is -- this works on my 2022 GLE53 but not on my 2019 CLS53 (which does not have MBUX.

To access this workshop menu, go to ignition position one, go to trip in the middle of the left-hand screen, scroll to show mileage, press, the back button and the trackpad simultaneously for five seconds, then release and press the home button, and scroll to the left, and you should see the additional workshop menu. From there, you can scroll to include vehicle data where the battery voltage conditions are shown.

hi, I'm from Germany and also have problems with the 12v battery or 48v battery. After a short drive, the 12v battery is charged and remains charged when parked, after a long drive it is also charged but does not remain charged after parking. every day the 12v battery is in critical condition. and I don't have a temperature for the 48v battery in the workshop menu, is that correct. E Class S213 from 2020

Oh, that is correct. The 12 volt battery in the boot goes through a converter which charges the lithium battery in the front of the car. I am taking mine in to the dealership tomorrow because this is the second time that the car has left me stranded with out being able to start. It appears that the lithium battery in the front is what is responsible for turning over the engine. I'm not thoroughly sure about that, but it would appear that the 12 volt battery in the boot since it is fully charged according to my voltmeter is well over 12 volts. Apparently that is not the source of cranking the engine.
