2024 GLE 53 Coupe Options Questions (steering wheel and lights)

Hi y’all. I am in the process of ordering a GLE 53 AMG coupe and I am coming from a 2021 GLE 350. I am surprised on how many standard options this car comes with. I have some questions about the optional options:

1. I’m planning on getting the carbon fiber/microfiber steering wheel. Does anyone have a pic of if? I am trying to get an idea of how it looks, how much carbon fiber vs microfiber is on the wheel, and how thick it is. I noticed the standard Napa leather steering wheel is kind of small and the Napa leather/microfiber steering wheel is thicker and a little bigger.
2. Do these headlights have active curve and/or cornering function for the US spec GLEs? I know the GLE 53 comes standard with the lighting package that’s optional on the GLE 350, but I am not sure if they’re dumbed down like on my current GLE with the lighting package or if they are enabling some of the functionality in them like the Europe spec GLEs.
3. From looking at window stickers, it looks like the GLE 53 AMG coupe comes standard with the AMG ride control+ suspension based on AIRMATIC. What exactly is the difference between this and the AMG ride control option that’s about 3K? After test driving the standard AMG ride control based on AIRMATIC was comfortable.

The build I am planning on getting:
Twilight blue metallic
Classic red/black Napa leather
Red seat belts
Carbon fiber trim
Carbon fiber/microfiber steering wheel
22 inch matte black AMG cross wheels.
Night package.

Hi Makris0000. You may want to peruse the thread entitled DOG 2024 ORDER GUIDE AMG 53 and 63S, started by David Vargas Some very good information there.

On some of the latest pages, there is information about available options. If I recall, some folks have said the carbon fiber/microfiber steering wheel might be delayed, or not available. There are similar comments about ARC - Active Ride Control, the 3K-ish option to which you referred. So ask your dealer if you can get those.

I just picked up my 2024. I have the Nappa/microfiber steering wheel and it's very comfortable. I also really like the ride quality and I don't have ARC. The 2024 has a lot more horsepower and torque than my 2019, so I could see where some additional control could be helpful, but I'm happy.

I haven't done a lot of night driving to see if the headlights follow the steering, but I think I saw that on a promo video. My 2019 had it, so I would be surprised if the 2024 does not. Maybe someone else can help with that.

Regarding headlights, are you referring to the dynamic lights that blackout the glare for oncoming vehicles? NHTSA Recently approved of this so hopefully no need to program it:

I'll bet that before they can do a retroactive update, they'll have to submit the fix to NHTSA and wait for approval.

It would be great to have it done with an OTA update. Raj did mine and I love them.

I have added the Driver Assistance Package to my build. After thinking about it I realized I should get it so I don't kick myself later for not having it. How long did your build take from the day you ordered to the date of delivery? My build date is September 29th and I am wondering how much longer after the build date I will need to wait to get my GLE.

I am not referring to when the headlights turn off where the oncoming car is to reduce glare. I am referring to cornering lights, like when you turn the steering wheel the lights either swivel to the left or right or a cornering light turns on when turning the wheel to light up corners.

Many new lights don't swivel anymore with the advancement of LEDs. Instead the cars have many LEDs and they are able to project or focus the light where it is needed.

Truth be told, I actually "fell into" my new ride.

My GF is going through chemo for breast cancer so I thought I'd put a big smile on her face with a new E450 cab.
Well, wouldn't you know it, someone had backed out of their AMG GLE E53 deal and there she was...so it was a two-for-Tuesday last week.
Really, the only option I miss is the soft-closing doors which I've previously had. Regrettably, I'm being told it's a factory install only job.

Yes I believe that is what I am referring to. On my current 2021 GLE with the lighting package, there is a space in the headlight that is supposed to light up when the blinker is turned on or the steering wheel is turned to light up that side of the car. But for the States the light is taken out and it's just a black piece of plastic in there.

Oh man I am sorry to hear that. I hope she gets well soon and that E450 Cab brought some happiness to her.
