GLC43 Coupe RIP

Two weeks ago I traded my 21 GLC43 Coupe for a 24 GLE53 SUV. Driving the smooth-shifting 53, made me realize how unpleasant the 43 was to drive. The 43’s shifting to/from 1st gear was pretty annoying. I tolerated it for two years by telling myself this is to be expected from a high performance car. Needless to say, I am very pleased with the 53’s engine/tranny combo which shifts very smooth. With the 48 V on board, 53's acceleration at launch is quick even for such a heavy car.

I’m not sure if Mercedes purposely toned down 53’s performance exhaust, (which is noticeably quieter than 43's exhaust) but I’m hopeful my 53’s voice will mature over time.

One disappointment is the 53’s Navi. Unless I am missing something, the current version is lacking vital information, such as upcoming route changes, both immediate and overall trip. Since this MBUX is brand new, hopefully subsequent versions will add more info. In any case, the wireless implementation of iPhone CarPlay is a welcome alternative, especially the availability of iPhone’s various Navi options.

There are a lot of settings in the MB NAV.
Next street, current Street, next street, next turn, trailer yes or no, avoid tolls, ferries, dirt roads. Lat/long, elevation, how you want your route choices presented, rerouting options, more.

I use Android, and I observe that congestion, construction and other 'live' functions are significantly faster and more accurate than Waze or Google Maps.

I prefer the MB NAV, which is based on HERE technology, the Industry leader.

It can also utilize What3Words addresses, a location format that's increasingly accepted/preferred by Emergency Responders.

I'm comparing 24 Navi to 21 Navi, so I have some re-learning to do. What's "What3Words addresses" ?

I'm still on the '21 NAV, so that's the experience I have.

What3Words is a more accurate location description than lat/long or address - within nine square meters. (Looked it up.)

First responders like it because if you have an emergency at a Walmart or a football stadium they know exactly where you are.

I have the app on my phone, and it can tell what part of which room in the house I am.
I can use the app, copy the What3Words location (three words!) and paste it into my Mercedes me app for a destination.
I think you can also enter it into Hey Mercedes by saying "take me to What3Words sweat energy violin."

I can see it's usefulness if I need assistance in a remote area, but I'm fine with addresses for auto navigation.🙂

Probably best to Google it.

I really liked 21 NAV in both my MBs. 24 NAV is definitely a step down.

MB switched providers a couple of times, I believe they are currently using Here, while as before was Garmin (pre-facelift GLC) then after that was TomTom (?)
