Suddenly three days ago MBUX on my '22 GLE53 just stopped working. I have no map, no navigation, no favorites and no voice activation via "Hey Mercedes." Thankfully Sirius XM and on the radio functions are okay and other functions such as"Vehicle"are working. For the past 3 days the navigation screen says "Activating Navigation."

I have restarted the system and reset the system to know avail. Customer service has no answers. I have an appointment for service on Friday. It seems like an automatic software update may have occurred and it is defective. Anyone else having similar problems?

 

I had a similar freeze happen about a week ago, but mine was stuck on the initial System Start screen (or whatever it's called) with the AMG logo IIRC. Shutting the car off and starting it again fixed it. No issue since.

I've seen it hang there before, esp. after Sirius XM updates, but never for more than maybe 10 seconds. This time it was well over 2 minutes when I gave up and shut the car off and restarted it.

Too much software in these new cars makes it hard for a mfg to test every use case and release "perfect" updates that work 100%. Just gotta live with the gremlins I 'spose.

I'll be curious to know how the dealer fixes it for you - maybe a system reset or new software flash? Keep us posted.

 

There's a number of causes, but it's probably the internal HDD that has started failing.

 

I had a similar situation a month or so ago. Restarting the car didn't help, and waiting didn't help, so I took it out of the garage and parked it outside for a couple of hours.

My thought process was that it might be in the middle of a download that was hampered by being in the garage.

Whether that was right or wrong I don't know, but next time I started the car it was fine.

Genuine Q: do these HU's still use a HDD vs a SSD? I don't hear and spinning noise, so if a HDD is in use it is very quiet/insulated. Hmmmm......

Without a hard-wired connection to my GLE53, my local dealer did a "Quick test" in about 15 minutes as I waited in the check-in area. I did not have an appointment -- I just showed up unannounced. The only info that the dealer had was a a photo of my nearly-blank Navigation Screen that read "Activating Navigation" as it had been doing for 3-4 days. So all of the info in this Quick test came from a server somewhere that had this info from my GLE. Here's some of what the test revealed and for each test. The versions and manufacturers of the hardware and software were listed:

U112787: Communication with one or more color generation and coupling modules on LIN bus 6 has a malfunction. The message is missing

Pretty amazing to me that all of this info is apparently uploaded to a server and then available for download at a moments's notice. I'll let you know what the dealer says on Friday when the vehicle is in for service.

 

Diagnostic performed: "PERFORMED CONTROL UNIT LOG AND FOUND MBUX CONTROL UNIT ABNORMAL. FOUND LI DOCUMENT LI82.85-P-071394. REPLACED INTERNAL HARD DRIVE ON MBUX MODULE."

MB Service provided an updated "Final quick test log" which showed all is well with not fault codes for an extensive list of bout 60 items including which I found very interesting:

A26/17 MBUX multimedia system (Head Unit)
A40/16 Display cluster "Instrument cluster and head unit" (ZAN)
N133/1 Instrument Cluster (IC)
N145/1 AMG DRIVE UNIT (AMG DRVU)
G1/3 48-V on-board electrical system battery (48 V LIB)

HDDs were used in MBUX prior to December 2021. Solid-state memory (soldered to PCB) is used after that.

 

Did you get any updates? I work in sales and we have a 2022 AMG GLE53 and it has these codes but no dash light indicator. I'm curious as to what happened with yours so we can see if it needs to go to auction or if the warranty covered the costs
