Better than extected fuel economy GLE63s

When I got the opportunity to purchase my dream car, I fully expected to have an up close personal relationship with my local gasoline supplier but I'm happy to report the fuel economy has been much better than expected. In my day to day driving, there is a slight increase in fuel consumption over my previous GLE450. What i found really interesting was on a recent road trip where I travelled about 8 hrs towing a 2500lb trailer, my fuel economy was 19MPG! I remember the 450 fuel economy being much worse when I towed anything, even lighter loads like our SeaDoo . Logically it makes sense since the V8 isn't working as hard but still a pleasant surprise!

Same experience here with my 2022 GLE AMG 63s. We drive from Chicago to Idaho to AZ 3 times a year. I fully accepted the fact that high fuel consumption would offset the fun factor. We regularly get 22 to 23 mpg on these long trips. In town driving is very different for sure, at least when I am driving vs my wife.....

Did you guys use sailing/gliding mode during these trips? I'd imagine as an experiment for fun going between sailing/gliding mode in conjunction with cylinder deactivation one could really stretch their mileage.

Straight up driving. Put cruise control at 80+ mph and go (where allowed of course.....).

I had RJ program my system to default to "I" mode on startup and I've selected pretty much all the comfort settings with the aggressive exhaust option. These settings do give me glide mode and 4cyl mode which I do see kick in every so often. The engine also shuts down when I'm stopped but with this engine, the start/stop is pretty seamless. I'm sure all these little bits really do help with the overall fuel economy numbers.

Here are some data from an AZ to Chicago trip I just completed today.

Day 1: 508 miles
24.8 mpg for the day
66 mph avg speed for the day
Note: cruise set on 80 most of the time

Total Trip: 1797 miles
23,8 mpg for the entire trip
70 mph avg speed for the entire trip

Not bad for the AMG GLE 63S!

Day 1

Total trip

Pretty good numbers. My 2019 GLE 63S coupe never gets more than -17 ish mpg. Towing small trailer 14 ish. Then again 5.5 liter vs 4.0. Very cool. Thanks for sharing

At most I get around 18 MPG in my 63. The 5.5L is definitely thirstier than the 4.0L.

Considering the fun factor, fuel mileage is a good offset.
