Normal sound for the M256?
Took this video of the sound on my engine. Sounds like a rattle. Sorry the clip is so short, the video is a large file and I had to clip it down. It only makes this sound on a cold start and then goes away after about 30 seconds. Is this normal?

Video is too short also people might be reluctant to download a file, try uploading to youtube. I did download your video but too short.

here is a longer video. It sounds like a diesel. About 10 seconds later the rattle sound goes away never to be heard again while the engine is warm. It only makes this rattle diesel sound from a cold start.

Again sounds normal to me. Go to the dealer have a listen to their brand new engines and compare. So you can relax.

Ya, agree that does sound normal. Unless I am not hearing the same thing OP is hearing, might be out of my audible range.

I have GLE 450 with same engine , and i experiencing same rattle sound what worry me , did you find the reson of this noise ?

I wrote it off as normal after hearing the responses. Haven’t had any issues with the engine. Good luck!

A238 E53 & V167 GLE53
I have this in my E53 also. I believe its the wastegate on the turbo. If you put pressure on the wastegate arm where it goes into the turbo it will quiet down a bit.
From what Ive read, its quite difficult to get a replacement under warranty as the wastegate is still doing what it should, just a little noisy.

I have the same problem with my cls450 and after search it is the wastegate rod it should be replaced
