AMG Lounge

Hi everyone, I recently upgraded from a GLE 450 to the AMG GLE 53. I received an email from the AMG lounge, but it’s entirely in German. Any idea how to get signed up for the English version?

Just FYI, there is no English version anymore. The German and English versions have been combined to a single AMG Private Lounge and it's all been redone. Used to be more like a forum, but now it's groups. The good thing is that AMG employees are active on it, so posting in the AMG Support group can get you help directly from AMG if you have an issue that needs to be escalated. If you are ever in Germany, owning an AMG and the PL membership entitles you to a private tour of the factory in Affalterbach. Tours in Affalterbach are not available to the general public. Only AMG owners and PL members. Won't apply to you with a 53, but those with hand built engines could actually meet the person who built their engine. Unfortunately the person who built mine worked the night shift, so I wasn't able to meet him.

It seems odd to me that if you are a member of the AMG private lounge by invitation, you can't tour the Affalterbach factory if you have a six-cylinder AMG.

I wouldn't want to take the engine builder off the line just to say hi, even if I had a V8.

You misunderstood. You can absolutely tour the Affalterbach factory as an owner of a 53, but your engine wasn't built there, so you won't meet anybody who worked on your engine. As far as taking the engine builder off the line, there is no line. There are 6 or could be 8 (I don't remember exactly) engine builders per shift that stand in the middle of a workshop with parts arranged around them and tools hanging from the ceiling. They are quite happy to meet customers, especially if you speak German. The engine block is mounted on a rig that has wheels and lets them flip the block from side to side and cart around the room. There are some stations to apply adhesive and such, so they cart the engine block over there. You literally stand among the engine builders when you visit. It's a quiet and clean workshop environment and you don't even have to raise your voice. The only thing they tell you is to not touch anything. My colleague who came with me touched one of the pistons and was reprimanded by the tour guide. They don't like if you leave your greasy fingerprints on those things.

BTW, for those who are curious, here's a great YouTube video showing the assembly of the current 4.0 V8. So this is what you get to see if you are there on a tour.

That's the video that I posted last year, saying it was the first one I'd seen that showed the operations clearly.
I could take pride in working in that facility, unlike previous AMG videos that downplayed the role of the technician and emphasized the tech in the adhesive application and other automatic operations. In those videos it looked like the tech's only contribution was to wheel a bare block from station to station.

This was a much better video. Thanks for posting.

There is also the M139 one with an upgraded facility, so many robots though.
