2023 AMG 53 Knocking noise when steering

In any case, I have a 2023 AMG GLE 53 with 8K miles on it. I've noticed that when making slow turns while going in reverse, I hear a knocking noise coming from the right front passenger wheel. At first, I thought it was the rims grinding on the pavement, but then I heard a pretty loud bang/knock which I could feel in the steering wheel. I've searched Google for similar issues, but they seem to be vague in their explanations/details/symptoms and/or they occur in other models not being the GLE.

I can hardly believe this is "normal" and I'm concerned that if this goes unaddressed, I'll be making things worse.

What tires do you have?
Wider, stickier tires will break traction, inner side vs. outer.
Let us know.

Also, it would be useful to complete your profile so we know what car you're driving without having to ask on your next post.

Mine does it also, especially if there is any debris, snow and particularly ice. The tight turning radius causes the differential to slip a little in tight, reverse turns. My coupe did it also

My 2021 C63S does this at slow speeds while in a tight turn radius regardless of in drive or reverse. Never bothered me as almost all of my high performance cars I've owned have done this. Wider grippier tires is what causes this. My wife's new 2025 GLE53 does it, and her tires are wider than my C63s... or at least they look to be.

2024 AMG 53 GLE Coupé
My 2024 GLE Coupe does it as well but only on summer tires (I got the Conti from the factory). Exactly like you described - crawling on reverse with max turn angle... but... after changing to winter tires (Michelin Pilot Alpin 5) this effect is gone.
I guess its about the rubber stiffness, perhaps thread. The Dealer said that its normal and not to worry

Just left the dealership this morning, 1/2025, with the same issue/problem on my 2024 AMG GLE 53 SUV. I was told it was summer tires and a known issue I had to put up with unless I changed to all-season tires, which they informed me would be out of program with Mercedes. Oh..at my expense as well. They also let me know that at 11,000 miles, the rear tires of the staggered set need replacing. I let them know how disgusted and disappointed I was with this Mercedes "performance" vehicle. Their response was "you drive a race car with sticky tires...expect it". Not a happy customer with my one-year-old purchase to say the least.

Your Salesperson is the culprit for letting you make an uninformed purchase, not MB.

"11,000 miles" is a WAG, depending on your driving habits. It'll probably be more than that, but it'll be less than 30,000 miles for sure.

The Wear Index of 200 is the key.

My AS OE Conti's have a wear index of 480, and I can drive them in the winter.

I don't know of any manufacturer that has warnings in their Order Guides about the Disadvantages of Summer tires - or the Advantages, either.

Edit: if you have a Tire and Wheel warranty, I think replacement tires would be In Program as long as you use MO or MO-1 Spec tires.
But not for seasonal swaps.
