Can u default safety features to off upon start up?
Just purchased a 2021 cpo gle63....as with most cars, we can't stand the lane departure feature. Same with the auto brake feature which is absolutely dumb.
Any way to default these to off instead of having to do 20 things when u get in the car?

The Active Brake Assist can't be defaulted to off. It turns back on every time the engine is started. LKA on the other hand stays off in my AMG, but I have a C63S Coupe. I thought it stays off in all AMGs once you turn it off, but might be different for the SUVs. The SUVs have stricter safety systems due to their inherent high center of gravity. ESP is never fully off in the SUV models for example. Active Rollover Protection is always on as lots of power in an SUV is a recipe for disaster. Too easy to flip these things wheels up.
Third-party coders such as BenzNinja may be able to change the defaults of some of these systems, but you gonna have to buy or rent hardware first for them to be able to remotely code your car. The auto braking has never been an issue for me and I'm a spirted/aggressive driver. However, things tend to be more conservative in the SUVs as said. I do have LKA turned off, though and as said, it stays off for me.

Active Lane Keeping Assist is the most egregious - I hate it because it uses brake intervention.
Regarding Active Brake Assist - you can change it's sensitivity via menu.
But it's required by the Feds, so I doubt it can be coded out. Same with cross traffic alert.

I do not turn off Active Brake Assist. It has saved my bacon more then once when traffic suddenly came to a stop and I happened to look away at the wrong time, or simply was slower to react than the computer. With the warning timing set to Medium or Early, it doesn't excessively warn me, but when it does I seem to show enough of a reaction so that it doesn't slam on the brakes and lets me finish my maneuver. I can only recall one false positive in the 6 years I've owned the car so far when it seemed to see a ghost. Must have been a reflection in the camera or something. All other times it slammed on the brakes were for legitimate reasons and possibly avoided me rear ending somebody. I will never know, but it is a piece of mind for sure.

You cannot change the sensitivity. The setting you are referring to is widely misunderstood. You can only adjust the warning timing. A lot of people mistakenly set this setting to Late, thinking that it will delay the automatic braking, but that's not what it does. That setting controls how early you get the acoustic and visual warning before it slams on the brakes. The earlier you get that warning, the more time you have to react to the situation and avoid the automatic engagement of the brakes. I have mine set to Medium if I remember correctly, or it could be set to Early. That's essentially what you want. So then when it thinks there is a possible impending collision, you have time to signal that you are aware of the situation by for example briefly lifting off the throttle, tapping the brakes, or even accelerate and steer away from the obstacle more deliberately. All that signals your intent to evade the possible situation and then it won't slam on the brakes.
I do not turn off Active Brake Assist. Nope. Active Braking only engages if it senses that you are heading for a possible collision. What you are describing is normal engine braking. You take your foot off the brake, and the engine slows you down as fuel injection is cut off and the air compression and friction in the engine has a braking effect. Happens in every car. Higher compression engines have a larger braking effect. There's nothing that actively applies the brakes when you take the foot off the gas. The only other system that actively slows down the car is DISTRONIC (Adaptive Cruise Control), but that isn't on until you engage it.

Oh, one thing I forgot, your specific car is a mild hybrid, so when you take the foot off the gas, there's recouperation. You can't turn that off. That's the nature of the beast when having hybrid assist. It's recuperating energy as you are slowing down. In some cars you can adjust the level of recouperation, but that's only in EVs and full hybrids such as the E Performance models. Mild hybrids don't typically allow adjusting the level of recouperation.

BTW, you may wanna read up on Glide mode. That's one way to reduce the amount of slowdown you see when taking the foot off the gas, but it only operates under specific conditions and is primarily meant to save fuel.
