GLE 63S Major Issues at 30K Miles

Hey guys unfortunately the 63S is at the dealer with a CEL after power loss attempting a hard acceleration. The CEL came on and the car began vibrating hard throughout the rest of the drive to the dealership along with extreme power loss. Thought it was a sensor or fuel pump issue.

Dealership had it for a week being unable to update the computer stating there was an issue and they would open a service ticket with Mercedes USA.

They finally responded today that the transmission valve body/control unit needs to be replaced along with the oil cap cover which is the wrong size and not closing properly.

Dealership quoted $3500 for replacement including replacing the oil cap cover.

I was about to take the car in for making the metal clicking sound when turning steering wheel right and left (wheel bearings?). Started happening a few days prior, very noticeable in parking garages.

Anyone else have anything to add, other maintenance to check/get done while it's in to avoid further problems or any similar experiences.

Waiting for quote on the wheel clicking sound and surprised at such a big failure so early.

Warranty ran out, covered out of pocket.

Once warranty runs out you can't add any type of warranty coverage that I'm aware of, must add while there's still time left.

What codes did they share with you to determine it’s the valve body? In that you had clicking, are you sure it’s not a speed sensor related issue?

Get the popcorn out guys you're gonna love this one.

The dealership wasn't able to update the computer because I have a stage 1 tune on it.

Their solution? Replace the entire transmission control unit...

Replaced the loose oil cap and cleared the code to see how it goes. Based on their inspection nothing else is wrong.

Wheel clicking is the wheel bearing/lug bolt issue that their currently investigating and will update with results.

Couldn't pull any CEL code because computer hasn't been updated in over 2 years since I tuned it and don't have the original to flash it back.

Based on what I'm hearing about removing start/stop and making the pops and bangs quieter that's not something I'm interested in.

Interesting - I'd opt for reliability over a slight boost in performance on a vehicle this costly to maintain... maybe I'm just overly risk averse.

My 2021 has been back in many times after the oil pressure solenoid failed and was replaced under warranty. The repair / replacement required engine removal. In all of the visits and "updates" my exhaust does not apear to have been changed. Even "emotion start" is still active. I do wish the stereo piped in engine sound could be removed / deleted. Even that "feature" appears to function as when new.

Sounds like a bad CV axle (drivers side), mine did the same sound when turning right. Went away after replacement. Hope this helps

Hey just curious. Did you get it replaced under warranty? If not how much did that repair run you around. I’m definitely in need to get it done.

No, not a warranty repair. I purchased the part and did the repair myself. Takes about 60-90 minutes I'd estimate

You might consider putting your car under your profile, so we be more helpful.
Was the car out of warranty?
