Oil Change Interval

I know that the oil change is recommended once a year. On turbo vehicles that create more heat, I am not sure that this is wise. How often are you guys changing your oil?

I am about to pickup a CLE 53 AMG tomorrow. My plan is to change the oil after the first 750 miles and then every 5,000.

Every 5000 on all my vehicles.

Send a sample to Blackstone Labs and they will send you an analysis of the condition of your oil when you drained it.

First at 2,500 (I was a little late on #1 for my own OCD style, in hindsight I should have done a 1k change, then 2500, then 5k from there on out). Second at 7510 and then every 4800-5000 since then. Sitting at almost 55k now. Zero leaks. Brake fluid has been changed twice, coolant once, read diff fluid done, and 9-speed fluid done. Cabin filter and both air filters get changed annually. One of the most trouble-free cars I have owned. Maintenance is not cheap, but you sign off on that when you go AMG. I do OC and filters myself. Dealer does the rest.

Most owners I know, myself included, ignore the once-a-year schedule. On these turbo AMGs, we change oil every 5,000-7,500 miles or every 6 months, whichever comes first. The heat and stress break down the oil faster. It's cheap insurance for the engine. Stick with a good full synthetic like Mobil 1 or Liqui Moly.

Thanks all for the replies. I assumed that 1 year was way too long. Going for an oil change once the snow melts and temps warm up (summer tires).

LOL! A lot of oil change overkill here IMO

3 or 4 people tell you their 'personal preference' and you think that's better advise than what the engineers at Mercedes and AMG recommend? Go by the book.

2026 GLE53
I just bought a 2026 GLE53 SUV and so far, we love it. Of course, I am interested in this thread as we move along in ownership because I have always cared for my own vehicles as much as I can. Where is everyone getting their oil and filters from? Is it true the oil drain plug is plastic and needs replacing at the time of the oil change? I usually use FCP Euro for parts on my 2005 BMW 530i and my 2007 SL550, but I do cross-reference the part numbers through REALOEM. Where do we find a good Illustrated Parts Breakdown for our cars? Thanks for reading.

Yes, I do, however, this is not the only opinions that I am taking. Here's why. Various governments that enact legislation that demand better fuel economy while mandating safety features and other things that add weight to vehicles have led most manufacturers to go to smaller, turbo motors. Turbos add a lot of heat that can break down oil quicker. However, most manufacturers are still using longer service intervals. Many engineers are skeptical of long intervals. So, why not be helpful with your response and let us know what engineering marvel is being used to keep oil changes to a year? On another location, a Mercedes tech advised replacing oil sooner than "the book". Why? He's seen more turbo failures.

Engineering marvels? Not sure they are marvels but maybe the oil capacity was designed for it as well as the electric auxiliary coolant pump for the turbos that runs after shutdown. I have 67K miles on my GLE63S. I only do the once a year or 10k miles recommended. I do not plan to keep it out of warranty. The engineering marvels such as four small seperate timing / drive chains inside the engine and that pesky oil pressure solenoid worry me more than turbo failure

Sure. The ones he's seen and all the other failures from around the world are reported to Mercedes and AMG and they would make changes to oil intervals if necessary.

Example. The M113 engine like in my 98 E430 and my 02 E55 etc. was causing sludge buildup with the recommended dino oil and MBZ found out and changed the recommendation to Synthetic oil only.

I based my change on several resources. The main one is a fellow on you tube the oil guy. He done some tests regarding oil breakdown at break-in periods of new engines at the effect of more recent change of oil on Direct inject engines. If I am wrong I waste a small amount of dollars. Just my thoughts.
