Things like "Hey Mercedes" I'm cold and the "thing" turns up the temp a few degrees and the ambient light turns red is just a marketing gimmick to me. You try it once and "yawn" been there done that now. There has to be some. Please share yours.

Honestly, when it comes to voice commands for me, it has to be faster and more convenient than just doing it, including factoring in potentially having to repeat myself if it didn't get it the first time. This is not just in the car, but on my other devices as well. So, mostly I use voice commands for things that require text input or finding something, such as inputting navigation destinations and calling/texting somebody. Occasionally, I use voice commands to make things happen around my smart home. This is not a voice command for the car, but for example as I pull up to my house I can say "Hey Siri, I'm home", which then opens the garage door, unlocks the door to the house and turns on the light in the foyer and disarms the alarm system. Key is that in this case, the voice command is tied to a custom routine that does a bunch of things with a single command. But even so, I have shortcuts set up on my phone to quickly trigger the most used actions/routines with a simple tap from the control center, so unless I have my hands full, that's usually quicker than using a voice command, plus I don't look like a homeless person talking to myself. Other things trigger automatically based on geofences, or sensors in the house, so I don't even have to issue a command. Having made a career in tech, my thing has always been that the technology needs to work for me, not the other way around, so for me it's about automation.

When Mercedes used the Command system, there was Voice Individualization, where you could pull it up on the screen, and ask it to individualize.
The system would then speak a bunch of words and phrases that you repeat, and it would learn your method of speech, accents, etc.
Since MBUX, the Nvidia individualization process occurs every time you use the system. They call it contextual speech recognition. I've been impressed and I found that it adapted to my speech pattern in about a week.
Navigation example: Even though MBUX wants me to say "take me to XX," I would still use the Command phrase, "Enter destination."
After about a half dozen attempts, MBUX adjusted to "enter destination" snd asked me to enter a street number and so forth.
My wife no longer says hey Mercedes turn on massage, she just says hey Mercedes massage.

I hardly use the original phrases anymore and am pleased that the contextual adaptation has been successful, at least in my case.

A few I use regularly, and when I'm in the car alone I do not need to say, "Hey Mercedes":
  • Take me to x (for navigation)
  • Open/close the roller blind
  • Set the temperature to x
  • Increase/decrease the volume
    • Increase/decrease the volume a little bit
  • Turn on the rear defogger
  • Turn on/off recirculation
  • Show me ambient light settings
  • and others that I do not recall right now
One does not need to use exact words or phrases; any phrase similar to what I typed usually works. I find the current versions of MBUX work better with voice commands than on any other car I've ever had, so much so that in other cars I never used voice commands. Now I use them all the time as it saves me time and lets me keep my hands on the wheel and eyes on the road.

One that just came to mind, although I haven't used it in a while is "Turn off the passenger side seat heater". I use this when my wife turns it on and then I drop her off somewhere instead of trying to reach across. Voice commands actually do work quite well even in COMAND NTG 5.5. That's the first time they went beyond just phone and navigation type voice commands and added commands to operate other vehicle functions. MBUX then later expanded on that.

I remember another one that is very convenient:
  • Turn off/on lane keeping assist -- way the heck easier and faster than digging through menus. Allows me to turn lane keeping off on the fly, such as when I'm on a windy road with potholes that I have to swerve to avoid

I have to remember this for next time I'm driving a loaner or rental car. In my AMG I don't have to deal with this as once LKA is turned off, it stays off permanently and I still have a proper physical button for it. But I drove a Golf rental in Europe last October, which had the most annoying LKA and the damn thing turned back on every time the car was started, along with the stupid mandatory speed limit warning system that starts yelling at you the moment you drive 1 kph above the speed limit. So every time I started the car I had to remember to go into the assistance system menu and turn them off. At least they had a shortcut at the top of the screen to go straight to it.

That's one setting I always have turned Off.
I think it's dangerous.
IMO It's designed for people who aren't paying attention and who stray out of their Lane.
Active Steering Assist is what keeps you centered in your lane, and isn't as violent.

It's good to know that voice commands work for that function though. Thanks.

you don't have to reach across, at least on my MY2024. There is a toggle button for passenger seat heat/cool on the driver's side door controls.

Yes, some models/model years have that, but not all.
