That MLK looks good. They probably didn't build it because it would steal sales from the ML and effectively kill the R class.
I'm still excited about the GLK though.

+1 ...I wouldn't doubt it...the ML (from what I know) is doing really well for MB so why go and mess that up...the R-class isn't doing nearly as well but I think the GLK (assuming it'll be a good amount cheaper then the ML) will fit right in, in the entry-midsize SUV level

This will indeed steal away from the ML350. The GLK will be offered with the same v6 engine, and have the same seating capacity as an ML. The GLK will almost certainly under cut the ML in price by at least five or six grand fully loaded, so why pay the extra money for the ML?
That all being said, I made a similar post on the ML board about the newly refreshened ML. The spy photos show a tire carrier on the back of the ML, which could mean that the ML will gain an optional third row, so it would gain extra seating over this GLK.
I'm starting to like the GLK the more I see of it, can't wait to see one in person. Hopefully in a color other than white, or silver, the lighter colors make it look too much like a Subaru as others have pointed out.

I don't know. I saw the pictures on the OT section and I'm not a fan at all. I think the X3 is an eye sore. I know why people are buying the X3 but the shape alone makes me want to stay away. The smaller size puts the GLK in the crossover category doesn't it? It’s not an SUV in my opinion. I am much happier with the look of the ML. And with the other SUVs I have had in the past, the ML is one of the smaller ones.

This is an interesting take on the GLK. Although both vehicles offer seating for 5, the ML is a larger vehicle with more interior space and cargo volume. The ML may also offer certain features that are not available on the ML (much like the E offers options not available on the C). The larger size may also appeal to some consumers. I'm not in favor of adding a third seat to the ML. It would reduce cargo volume due to storage of the seats when folded and essentialy remove all cargo space when the seats are in use. The GL is a great alternative for those needing 7 seats.
If you look at BMW before the redesigned X5 was released, the X3 offered the same 3.0 I6 as the X5, the same seating capacity and more cargo volume, and neither model had any problems selling.

I was informed that the spare tire carrier is an option on European ML's, but that doesn't explain why the lights were moved to the bottom of the bumper. I still think they are going to add an optional third row for those that really want it.
I look forward to seeing the GLK in the show room, because from the photos it appears to have no cargo room at all. I will be in the market for a new car to replace the ML, so its between the refreshened ML the GLK and maybe a refreshened R?

The lights move to the bumper because with the spare wheel mounted on a wheel carrier it reduces the viewing angle on the rear lights, put the lights on the bumper and you don't have the problem.

True, but if the tire carrier is an option does that mean you have to buy a new bumper when you install it? I was thinking more along the lines that the tire carrier would be standard equipment when you order the third row, that would explain why they made the bumper different.

The "reflectors" on GLs are lighted when this option is fitted.

Hard to believe you'll be willing to go to smaller interior.

Honestly, the ML has no rear seat interior room. If your six foot or over, forget about being comfortable there. Crazy thing is I was reading the numbers in the brochure and it says the ML has more rear seat legroom than the R, yet when I sat in the R I had a lot more room? But I'm with you, the GLK appears much smaller in size and looking at pictures appears to have no cargo room what so ever. I'll just have to wait till it hits the show rooms (spring mid summer?) and see how things shake out.

I doubt the W164 will get a third row. If it did, it would be pointless. The cargo area of the W164 is already smaller in dimension than the W163 and the third row in the W163 is already cramped.

Wife politely hinted today that she really like the way GLK looks and she loves the high seating position compared to a car. She won't drive my GL since it's "too big". Lucky me, I guess. Can't wait to see GLK.
Any ideas on what engine it will have?

Two gasoline V6s (with 228 and 268 hp) will be available. Four- and six-cylinder diesels will be available in Europe; U.S. buyers will be offered a 224-hp CDI Bluetec.
