1. Is wood trim going to be available for order at initial release date of January 5th?
2. Will paddle shifters be available in January? They are on Euro units I saw in Spain last week and show in some pictures used for USA market.
3. No one has seen the five spoke, 20" wheels at USA dealer training and no answer at the show.
Car was at the show with the 19", ten spoke wheels and they looked great, but you get black roof rails with them. Car was so much better looking in person. Audi Q5 is very good looking, but I like the look of the GLK and the GLK has many more engineering features. Can't wait to do my own test drive.

Link to ePrice list shows:
1. 5 spoke 20s and aluminium roof rails as part of $800 sport package.
2. The 7 spoke 20s, we are told?? are std with sport pack in USA, are a $3,300 option in Canada. Go figure.
3. The wood trim info in the Canadian ePrice list link seems vague and a bit confusing still. Sounds like wood will be delayed a bit??
USA are not talking or showing any 5 spoke 20" option that I have seen or heard.
Regarding in person, impression of GLK vs X3, the GLK looks more substantial and a bit bigger, even though it is slightly smaller. The GLK looks better inside and out. I love BMWs, own them, but never liked the X3, it always looks like a test mule, not a finished BMW.
The GLK is small. The new MLs are less massive than GLs or Range Rovers etc. and are a good option for those that really do not want a small SUV. My son's 2008, BMWX5, six, would be my choice in the ML range. For me, I am done with the full size SUVs and I am done with the little sport wagons. The GLK gives me best of both in a smaller, nimble, lux, serious technology package, and 6.5 sec. 0-60 mph is not shabby.
Two people I have talked to that actually drove the GLK say it feels like a bigger car than it is, in a good way. It has the solid, weighty feel of a Mercedes. I am told the ride quality is outstanding, beyond expectation. You will not get that in the Q5 or X3.
I like that Mercedes is releasing this car, year one, with all the bells and whistles of top end Mercedes. The base price tells me these guys want to take there best shot, with a fully optioned car out of the gate. These guys are going for market share fast.
For me, the car has passed the looks test and engineering/feature spec test. The drive test is the last test for me.

Pricing details are seldom rationale in isolation. Look at the total price of two cars equiped the way you want, and see how close or far apart they are in price, vs feature per feature pricing. If you do not find value, pleasure, or a meaningfull difference in what Mercedes/BMW/Lexus offers, buy a like equiped car for less and be happy.
The beauty of choice and a free market.
Would you feel better with gov regulated price for specific features that meet specific gov defined engineering specs?
I do agree that a garage opener as an extra seems dumb in isoation, but I also think my personal appreciation for things that do not impact A to B transport are hard to present as rationale, logical or smart.
How about charging $36,900US$ vs $35,900US$ and garage door opener is in std group of features? Now you cannot judge cost of opener, just total price vs competitors.
Price is a shell game attached to individual perception of valued attributes and competitive offerings, assuming you live in a country with competitive offerings.

Car manufacturers are driven by forces that cause them to do stupid pricing tricks. They all must compete, in each segment for a low "entry" or base price that causes them to take dumb things like compas mirror and garage door opener out of std features in high end cars. Mercedes and BMW's fat segment of target customers do not want stripped models and Mercedes/BMW do not want to schedule quantity builds for or sell entry level stripped models.
Given that Benz/BMW expect most cars to be sold with P1 package plus leather package, they make it painful to buy a stripped model, thus no compass, no garage door opener, no power seats included unless you buy P1.
I must say that I am impressed with the base price and features included in the GLK intro price. The $35,900 USD base price sure takes some pain out of adding packages.
If you are familiar with the w204 C class, the 2008 model had lots of people complaining about options packages and lack of items available on cars in Canada and not in the States. For 2009 they seem to have addressed most of them, not sure if they were just shooting for a lower base price to sell the car because it was new, or if they were just out of touch with what American buyers wanted. Hopefully they learned from their mistake and bring the GLK here similarly equipped as the Canadian models appear.

Would love to know the DEALER INVOICE on this vehicle... hope someone will post it when it's available!
Oh, also, the salesperson had no idea about the rumoured $500 credit for pre-ordering a GLK, as posted here. I wonder if DerekACS could provide more details?

The overall build and material quality is better than X3 and now X3 looks a bit dated inside and out. GLK looks better that the pix I think and now offers a very good value compare to X3 with a base MSRP that is almost $4000 cheaoer but offers more. However, I think that unlike MB, BMW will give a sunstantial discount and/or very low rates to comptere.
Deaker told me that they would not be able to give any disoucnt on GLK since it is new and in demand, but I think since market is deteriating rapidly this could change in a few months.
I got a $500 discount offer from MB Canada ater I signed up at GLK's micro site about a month a go.
MB could be holding back some info for actual release day press. Special Edition?
Bottom line, USA dealers do not know what the details are yet and may not even know all details when sales start January 5th. Dealer expects they will get initial order form for Jan 5th and items will change as factory sorts out component supply and factory build demand.
The price is fantastic though ... I configured one and it's still about $3K cheaper than my C300, which is fully loaded. The only option I'll be missing is my keyless go ... damn
GLK is an obvious choice; ML is more bang for the buck these days. Also considering another sedan, since I already have an RDX; no sense having 2 SUV's really.
