NYCGLK, without getting into a discussion of the Ideal Gas Law which is beyond the scope of this thread (and the perturbations water vapor adds to the calculations if your tires aren't purged and filled with nitrogen), the Tire Rack tech discussion on the subject will suffice for real-world tire pressure change purposes.

And GadgetGLK, thanks for that calculator link. Saves some manual calculations which I was planning to do to see what my speedometer error was going to be when I put on 17-inch winter tires.

2010 GLK350 4matic Blk w/Beige Artico/Wlnt. PP,SP,MMI,C-Nav,Xenon,AlumBoards+20's,Tow Hitch,
My Canadian MB Dealer offered a specific 17" rim (5 spoke) & Pirelli Snow tire package for my GLK350. 235/60R17. Speed rating 102H for $1481.50Cdn + tax (installation extra).

Is this a good deal or bad? Any comments are welcome.

If its replica's then your paying more... Check out this thread, there are like 8 people who are all going with the Blizzaks over the Pirelli''s on the 17".

You can quickly see the effect of not putting on the correct and suggested tire sizes.

Winter tires for GLK

I need winter tires as I live in the frozen region of Canada. I have a GLK with 19 inch tires. Should I put new 19 inch winter Pirellis on my rims or drop down to 17 inch Pirellis? If I go 17 inch I need to buy new rims but that's fine. My main concern is safety...17 or 19 inch tires...which would be best?

There are lots of opinions among owners on your issue, and - associations as well. Take a look at Automobile Protection Association (APA) pages "Tire Info and Ratings": http://www.apa.ca/Tire_Information.asp.

In the section "Technical Information" there is a chapter "Buying Smaller Wheels for Winter: "Minus One" Conversions"".

I got 17s from tirerack with Pirellis and they are awesome. remember that narrower tires are good in the snow then wider ones.

Tire Rack delivers to Canada. Their quick and even with duty their prices are better than what you'll pay in Canada. IMO

I ordered the whls and tire on a Sunday, they arrived on the Wed complete with lug nuts.

Tire Rack was awesome and I saved about $600. Best of luck.

try national tire warehouse in delta. I bought a lot of rims and tires there before and It doesn't cost more that 1400. The tires and rims I bought there are like 18" but have not tried buying winter tires from them before. go and check it out and let me know what you find out as I am in the market for winter shoes as well but too lazy to ask around.

Also shopping. Does yours include the tire pressure sensors?

I don't think Canadian models have tire pressure sensors.
I may be wrong though.

You're right.

The Canadian (and other deliveries) have the "Tire pressure loss warning system", principle based on the speed of rotation of a wheel changes as a result of a loss of pressure, whereas with the "Tire Pressure Monitoring System" (TPMS) (USA), the vehicle's wheels have sensors that monitor the tire pressures.

Very very slow
Post

I know a lot of GLK owners, if not all, had the original tires with M+S rated, including the Pirellis came with mine car.

For me, I've bought a separate set of 17" snow tires from dealer.

I have found that the Continental Extremecontact DWS tire worked very well on my Range Rover Sport. They do come in 225/50ZR17 for the GLK. These have three different patters across the tire. D, W, S indicators are molded in so when the S disappears they should not be used for snow. Available in many sizes from Tirebuyer.com and others. I found the Bridgestone blizzaks with the hydroscopic tread material the best on ice but were very short lived. They actually absorb the melted water between the tire and the road, effectively drying the road for great stopping. However, they lacked some bite in the deep snow.
