Edmunds.com Review of GLK

Edmunds.com has posted a very positive review of the GLK, saying "this might be the best combination of performance, luxury and economy."

I was looking at the pictures on the right side and read in one of them this: Standard halogen head- and foglights can be upgraded to bi-xenons with corner illumination and high-pressure washers (plus LED tails) for $1,750. Are they talking about the US spec GLK? Last time I checked, we do not get LED tails from our lighting/xenon package.

Yes, Edmunds is referring to the US spec GLK. From initial Canadian production, it appears that LED Tail Lamps are not part of the Bi-zenon package for Canada.

Great find, Derek. Thanks for posting.

Anyone else catch the GLK commercial during College Basketball telecast on ABC yesterday? That one advertised starting US MSRP as $33,950.

I think that's the 2WD version, not on sale yet...wonder why they can't just advertise the price of the actual available model...

Edmunds' GLK styling comparison/ Subaru Forester

I thought that the reference to the GLK being like a "2002 Subaru Forester with a MB grill" rather absurd, to say the least. The only thing in common is that both vehicles are a two-box configuration. Apart from that, the GLK is a much better executed design, IMO.

The Subaru comparison made by the car enthusiast press just demonstrates their ax to grind against MB. Anybody the knows and enjoys cars knows the comparison is rediculous. The only visual que that the "past" generation Forester shares with the GLK is the rear side panel hip line and yes they are similar. Everything else visual, including scale, and interior design are different. The current Forester is completely different than the old Forester or GLK.

As someone that owns a 2005 Suabaru GT and BMW wagon, I appreciate both, but am trading in the Subaru for a GLK. The Subaru is so trouble free, inexpensive and the 250 HP turbo flat/4 is amazing, plus excellent 4 wheel drive. Subaru engineering does great work for inexpensive, solid performance. The Subaru stick is a pain vs the joy of BMW ZF shifter. The Subaru a great value, but lacks the sophistication, ride and feel of the GLK or BMW wagon. Driving the Subaru for three years has helped me re-appreciate the real difference between MB/BMW and others. The real similarity in the Subaru/MB, IMHO, is the engineering culture in both companies. At two very different build cost points, both cars deliver elegant simplicity in their engineering, design work and inovations. MB has the budget to go farther and do more, but Subaru does remind me of the German cars more than any other Japanese car company.

If you can afford it, the MB/BMW deliver a different experience to enjoy visually and mechanically.

I find the clear rear lenses of the Forester and many Japanese cars too dramatic for my taste. The GLK looks much better.

funny, I made the forester connection as well, before reading the review.

Yes the Glk looks much better....but it still looks like a forester....and that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

My family and I instantly made the Forester connection when we saw pictures of the GLK. Now its a running joke, we point out "look a GLK" when we see foresters and "look a forester" when we see a GLK. Not edmunds fault, I'm sure many people that were remotely into cars could see some connection.

I have a hard time seeing the connection when you see the GLK in the flesh.

I have a hard time seening the connection when you compare the technology and advanced engineering budget that delivered significant differences.

Yes, the stacked vertical box dynamic exists, but the substance varies greatly.

As an experienced Subaru owner and someone that appreciates Subaru engineering, I fail to see the connection between the last gen Subaru Forester and GLK.
Seeing and driving the GLK eliminates the comparison.

IMHO,
