Garage Opener

Has anybody tried programming it yet? I read the manual, seems easy, but has anybody done it in real life? Any tips?

Here is my situation. I don't have regular garage door as I live in apartment complex with indoor parking. So I have this knob with a suction cup that you put on your windshield and it opens the garage door when I get close by. My problem with it is that it's not too powerful so the garage door starts opening to late and I have to stop and wait for it to fully open. I want to try programming HomeLink to see if it has more powerful transmitter and I can get the door to open sooner.

Any experiences with HomeLink would be appreciated.
Thanks.

i can't get neither my garage door, or my driveway gate to program to homelink. they both are rolling codes. i can cancel the rolling code on the garage and gate but then someone can use a scanner, and copy em'. so i just keep the normal opener in the car.

There are specific steps for rolling codes. Have you tried it?

You need to have the original remote opener. While I couldn't get it to accept the codes, my neighbor tried and got it first time.

You have to reset the HomeLink then press your opener remote while holding down the program button. The instructions in the manual are accurate, you just need a little patience.

rolling codes can be done easy...after you learn the opener to the home link press the learn button on the garage door motor. Then go back to the car hold the button you just learn (2-3 seconds it will flash then when do go out) then release and do it again.. press onece more time and it should work. There is a step by step in the owners manual..

NYCGLK its somewhat posiable to learn your do to it. as long as the " the thing with a suction cup" transmits a radio signal.

If its rolling coded than you will need to get to the garage door motor

Good luck

NYCGLK, I don't think its possible to setup the Homelink to operate one of those types of garage doors. You have a transponder type, you don't press a button to open your building's garage door, so its some sort of passive system that when you get near the door the do some sort of radio handshaking and that opens it for you.

I have my home garage door working with the home link and its a rolling code type. Its a two step setup but it does work and has not missed a beat in over the past two months. The range is better than my dedicated remote but there is a 1/2 second lag, so you do have to hold down the button for a bit longer.

For some reason I don't think it's gonna work either, wanted to see if anybody had experience with it.

My reasoning was that if that opening knob on my windshield transmits radio frequency then maybe I can make homelink transmit the same frequency when I push the button.

They way it works is that there are these things that kinda look like speakers hanging on the ceiling pointing down. When car comes in range you can hear those speaker looking things starting to beep and then doors start to open.

Not really a big deal since the doors still open automatically, just wanted to get some use out of homelink.

Thanks for starting this thread and the replies to it. I blew off the thought of even trying to program mine because it didn't work in our other vehicles. Now I will get out there and give it an honest attempt.

Rolling codes can be programmed but you must follow the owners manual instructions precisely, and that includes first pairing with your units remote, THEN going to the main unit and setting the receive button then running back to your GLK to punch up. Do not skip any steps, and you'll be up and running in no time.

I agree, I had no problems following the detailed instructions on getting rolling codes to work... Now if I can just get my wife to grab the top of the rearview mirror when she uses the Homelink, I'll be able to stop adjusting the mirror after every time she drives my car...

I wish the Homelink buttons were located on the visor like they were on my Audi...
