BLUETOOTH WITH i PHONE
I have tried to get the phonebook to come up on the screen. It says your phonebook is empty. It does come up on my 2008 E 350. Has anybody had any success with the i Phone? Thanks

i have an iphone and it doesnt load your phonebook into the screen. I also noticed if someone calls you that is in your phonebook, the screen cant determine who the person is and will only display the phone number. kinda sucks.

You have to use the COMAND phonebook. For the iPhone, transferring contacts can be difficult but not impossible.
Using iTunes back up your contacts to Yahoo Contacts.
Export contacts to a VCard format.
Copy VCard files to a PCMCIA memory card.
Plug in PCMCIA card into COMAND (if you have one) and use COMAND to import VCard contacts info into COMAND phonebook.
I did this, not everything lines up perfectly, but it beats entering everything in manually.

If your phone supports VCARD send via bluetooth, just go to your phone's phonebook and select all contacts and send via bluetooth. It takes all of 2 minutes. My delivery specialist wasn't too helpful in this area
There's more information at www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com but for some reason the GLK is not there so I just picked the c300. I compared all phones and there's only a handful that MB can import address book from. Most support VCard transfer. As yet the iphone doesn't support either one.
Andyf0's tip should work if you have a pcmcia memory card, otherwise either input it one at a time or copy your contacts to another phone and do the vcard transfer from there? Probably (hopefully) the updated firmware should have this support too.

Nice, that's why I love these car forums, you get to know about cars more than people who make/sell/deliver them ahaha. We'll try this soon. Thanks guys. I'll be sure give my dealer a call to tell them to learn more about cars they are selling.

The new iPhone and Bluetooth
I just got the new iPhone Friday and the phone book still does not come up. The good news is I love my car so I can live with this. Also the new phone has voice command so the phone book is not important. Thanks for all your input. We are lucky to have a great group for our forum....Frank

Frank, are you saying the iphone voice command works via MB's bluetooth? I have 3g with 3.0 updates, I'm pretty sure it doesn't do that. I think its a matter of time that someone writes an app to bluetooth transfer contacts (functionality is there with 3.0)
also, another way to do this is to export your contacts to vcard and transfer via PCMCIA memory card.

iPhone Bluetooth
The voice command only works on the phone. Not thru the MB bluetooth. After you tell the phone (call john doe mobile) the MB bluetooth take over. The voice command is a new program that came on the new phone.

Streaming stereo bluetooth won't work on MM, only UMI. This is MB issue not iphone (3.0 supports A2DP). Its been discussed in many other section in this forum.

So I have updated my iPhone to 3.0 and still cannot sync address book via bluetooth. I have exported my Outlook Contact list to vCard format and loaded that into my GLK via the PC Media card without issue... Not ideal but it does get the job done...

Robin--I have the standard bluetooth that comes with the GLK. I have P1 and UMI. All I could suggest is to try it again, also remove the old iphone from the GLK's memory first. Good Luck... Frank

IPHONE 3G OS 3.0
iPhone 3.0, although now has better bluetooth support, did not update their contacts function. It doesn't have an option to send contacts via bluetooth. The function is there because 3.0 will support peer to peer connect. Its just matter of time before someone writes an app to do so.

Webada, does your stero bluetooth work? Here's the problem
I'm discusing in a differtent thread.
"So what should I do then? I got iphone paired with the car. It works just fine. The Voice memos new application and hands free car audio works ok but when I start playing music on the phone it's played by the phone alone. The car speakers stay silent. I can't swith the music to the car audio. Is that beacuse the music is stereo and the other applications and phone calls are mono?"
Could you possibly check on yours?

I am not alone :)
I just found this on apple forum...

Mac OS3.0 does supposedly provide stereo Bluetooth via a car kit but it is not clear how to achieve this.
In my car I have a Mercedes Benz Bluetooth kit that allows hands free via bluetooth but when I play music via the iPod application I do not get to choose between the iPhone speaker and the car speaker. It plays from the iPhone speakers. I tried to 'trick it' by selecting MB during a phone call. This resulted in music being played via the car speakers simultaneously with the phone call. The sound was crappy - perhaps because it was mono only. When I hung up the phone call the music reverted to the iPhone speakers
Anybody?

Can any one with anything other than iphone that has stereo bluetooth support check?

I can confirm the case is true above. Its the only way i can get music out of MB speakers via bluetooth. I'm beginning to think this is really an iphone issue rather than MB. If ipod had a function to switch sound output via bluetooth or iphone speakers (just like the phone functions) then I believe MB will take it.
EDIT: No, I am sure now this is MB issue. MB bluetooth, as a sound output device, does not communicate to the originator as A2DP device. This is evident by iphone 3.0's ability to pair bluetooth headsets at ease without special functions. It just works via ipod once paired. Which means that MB bluetooth on MM package do not communicate A2DP (which also explains why it sounds mono)

Few more questions I dont expect to have all answeard but who knows
Having Comand APS, does it make sense to add UMI? Is it possible to surf the web on comand aps?Like use it as an external monitor for Iphone's safari? After installing TV Free upgrade is it possible to have the TV, back up camera, Navigation and Ipod/Iphone tv out source all at once? Do I need a special TV tuner for it?

if you have Comand, you can't add UMI.
but I hear ya, it makes sense to have all those features and its certainly not hard to do. Think of the screen as your TV with multi outputs; connect to your computer for internet, AMP for music and cable box for TV, and eve a game console.
it tooks years before car maker decided they can stick a $50 dvd player into their console display.

2010 E350, Bluetooth & Blackberry Bold
Picked the new 2010 E350 last weekend. It's a great vehicle except for the bluetooth connection to my BB Bold. Connection is dropped consistently with very poor reception. When turning off the bluetooth via the radio and use my bluetooth ear piece, no problems.
Is this a unique problem with the BB Bold or something else? Anybody else having a similar problem?
