Dealer Add Ons

Hi All,
I am waiting delivery of my new GLK. The dealer approached me the Simoniz 5, Lo Jack, Venture Shield and Tire and Wheel insurance packages....Should I go for them....

Any info will be helpful.

Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on your car.

To answer you question, it all depends how much and where you will be driving...and of course how much money you have to spend.

Lo Jack...that's what insurance is for, unless you live in crappy area and this would reduce insurance premium, but then why have MB? MB comes with car alarm.

I was gonna get venture shield, but it's 1K, and prolly would be even more from a dealer as they do huge mark ups. You can do this on your own. After 2k miles I have couple very small chips on the bumper, but unless you will wrap entire car those things will always happen. I would consider it if you do a lot of highway driving. I decided to save my money, and glad I did.

I got tire/wheel protection, as it covers any tires you have on for 5 years, and bent rims that cost 700 per rim (20's). If you are getting 19's I would not bother, but with 20's I feel like it's a must. But again if you do local driving on nice roads there's no point. I was afraid of bubbles in the low profile tires, and some members reported here that they are glad they got the insurance due to tire damage they have incurred.

Thank you very much NYCGLK.

The dealer offered Venture Shield for $695. I have 19" wheels. I am still debating about these add ons.

I have a week till my car arrives and to take my decision.

Thanks...

Did you buy or lease. If I bought the car I might consider it. I would gamble on a lease... Good Luck

I think that the Venture shield is a good deal @ $695. Skip the wheel warranty and the LoJack, if you car is stolen hopefully you have GAP insurance and don't get it back and can get a new one to replace it. Simoniz 5, use Mothers and you'll be fine.

Congratulations on your new baby and welcome to the forum. I've only been on here since June and it's a wealth of information on anything you could think of and then some.

well, what does ventureshield include for $695? Also who installs it? Dealers don't do it, they have somebody come in to do it. From what I read it's about an installer, who can charge a lot of money for a reason, if you don't know who is doing it, save your money. I read about nightmares ppl had with dealer installed clear bras. You really should know who is doing the job and what's their reputation.

I'd skip tire insureance with 19's, it's aboud 1k bux for 5 years. Put it in the bank for 5 years in case you need a tire to be replaced due to damage.

yes, do it... it is piece of mind basically, all these people can tell you to go wax your own vehicle whatever... chances are you aren't going to do it like the detailers will. Lojack will pay for itself in 3 years, ventureshield is great, and the tires... hell yeah beyond a shadow of a doubt... the first time you ding a rim you at least know it is not the end of the world.. and you will ding a rim

Thank you very much JBondox.
I am leaning towards Venture shield and tire and rim insurance and Lojach..It costs about $2200 extra...but the pieceof miind as you said should be worth it.

This is my first luxury car....

Thank you all very much.

Congrats and welcome to the family...

Its a matter of personal choice on all of the add ons, for my case since I am leasing I will be getting the first class lease protection and the tire and rim package since I have 20's. The venture shield I agree ask them to see the work off the installer, and see how he does. Even though we leased our BMW, and the current G Coupe, I had them done on the car.

Lojack is worth it, for the long run, but I wouldn't get it.First couple of years the GAP insurance will be there, but if you are in for the long term you can get it. Personally with the technologies such as laser cut keys, chip, etc. I wouldn't get it. If the professinal car theif really wants your car he/she will get it. If ever my car got stolen I just wouldn't want it back, would always will have something in back of my mind.

Best of luck and post pics on delivery...

Thank you very much Baby G, will post pictures when I get delivery.

So the plan now is:
Simoniz: no
Venture Shield: Check with dealer
Lojack: no, yes only if the difference with insurance is substantial
Tire and Rim protection: yes.

Thank you all very much for the input.

the lojack they offer now is worth it in my opinion. the lojack my dealer offered was the one with the early warning system. i live n a pretty high theft rate area but i park my car in a safe place. its just a piece of mind to know atleast your car has been stolen! and yes u can transfer it when theres a new owner. although my dealer said u cant, the literature they gave me says i can! so it may also help in the resale rate for the car if u ever decide to. and hell. 1k for life? yah. a price i could live with. and i do plan on getting lojack on my weekend toys. the early warning system is just what sold it for me.
