The cable that I was told would solve this did not work.
As others have found, it will charge and shut off on the USB cable but will not shut off on the other one.

I do have both the MMI (premium) and Command package (in Canada) and the cable is referred to as:
Charging cable 5V for new generation iPod & 3G iPhone - A0018278404

GLK, CLK, CLS
I went to my dealer today (I'm in BC, Canada by the way), and they looked it up & confirmed that there's a new cable. However, they also said that it's not covered under warranty, & that it costs $52.50! I told them that some got it for free, they spoke to the managers, but their answer was the same.
Could the people who actually were able to successfully replace their cable chime in & clarify whether it was done for free, or if they paid for it?!
Thank you in advance!
Fellow GLK owner!

Folks, I got mine changed yesterday. Tell them the cable isn't working correcting, and the cable is defective. I spoke with a service advisor who said if he knew of the other cable. He got parts to give me the new cable to test, and I showed them the new cable charged, while the one I had simply played. Don't go into details, and you will get it for FREE!!!

iPod Integration Kit or UMI Glove Box (iPod/USB/Nav kit)?
Just want to confirm the A001 827 8404 part number is good for the iPod integration kit, or the full UMI kit (the one in the glovebox with iPod and USB adapters) or both? I need to get this fixed as well.
Thanks

That is the way it is. You will be able to use the USB cable adaptor to charge it but you will not be able to read the music library information as it comes up in an XXXX format of letters. If you have the same experience I have with my 2009 E350 4Matic wagon you will also find that no matter what you do with the Nano it will play a suffled playlist of its own choosing. Setting the Comand to play normal tracks doesn't work either. There is no cable currently available from MB that will charge the iPod anyother way. If it is a right pain you might consider getting an older generation iPod that the cable was intended to work with and give full functionality. I have tried them all. My dealer Parts Manager is equally frustrated he cannot help.

Be aware that with a Nano you will need both. The USB cable will charge it and play it but it will be a limited shuffled playlist no matter what you do. You also cannot read most of the library content. If you have the other cable you will be have full function but no charging. There is no cable available for the Nano from MB.

I just took delivery of my GLK in ontario 2 days ago. The cable that plugs into the ipod from the media kit does connect my Iphone 3GS and DOES charge it. Have they made a change to the wires they are giving out now?

The issue is the phones seem to charge but the Nano's don't. Get a Nano from a friend and try it on the regular (not USB) cable. You will have full functionality of the Nano but it will not charge as it is 5V not 12V.

I guess I never noticed it.
Seems that some must move the nano in and out of the car? Usingit as a car device and a portable device.
That would be a pain, if they were always discharged.
Hard to understand why a device would play..using 5 volts internally, obviously........yet not charge...... Seems Apple themselves is doing some strange things here........
I have two nanos, dedicated to my two cars, and they work just fine. I take them out occasionally to sync them with itunes, but plug them right into a Belkin USB hub and never really noticed that they were not charged.
