i have always wondered: premium lighting.

i have always noticed this "premium lighting" thing on the glk's options list on the mbusa site. apparently, it is only included with the leather interior. what i want to know is, what is it exactly? it's not xenons.... is it additional ambient lighting?

yes, it's an ambient lighting package. I was recommended by the owner of my dealership not to get the leather package because they are already having some problems with it.

she wasn't specific with the actual problems, but we are very close with them and they would not want us to be in a car with defects. The option is definitely a luxurious one, but you're better off putting your money into something functional, instead of something that nobody will notice.

that actually is reassuring to me as i already have the glk but always wondered if i missed out on that premium lighting thing. i don't really care for having leather as i've had leather in my previous car and found it a b*tch to maintain. the artico is far more forgiving.

Sorry not a clue what your dealer is talking about?

My leather is Flawless & zillion times better then the tex.
The ambient lighting in the 4 door handles & under rear view mirror is nice touch!
Plus the rear light has on/off switches & all 4 doors has lights instead of stupid refectors!
For only $1750 it is worth every penny & gives a much richer & softer feel to the interior!

Good to hear, I opted for leather too. I've had leather in every vehicle for at least the last 15 years and it adds a lot to the general ownership experience as long as owners take the time to properly maintain it with a periodic application of a quality conditioner (preceded by a cleaner if required). My favorite is Pecard Leather Dressing.

Two more days and a wake-up til we jump on the high-speed train for the trip to Sindelfingen to pick ours up. Followed by a leisurely three-day vacation in the Black Forest to reduce the temptation to exceed the break-in recommendations by immediately jumping on the Autobahn.

Thats the only thing missing which we debated about on get the Tex or Leather... After 12 years this will be my first car w/out Leather, hope I won't regret it.

Sounds like a good plan eh... Post pics of your trip. Wish we had something similiar to this here in Canada, oh well...

you won't regret it believe me! Companies like MB and BMW wouldn't be including the vinyl option if it was not high quality and suitable for their customers :-)

MB Tex is a great product and isn't as fussy as any leather interior. I've had cars that had both and I honestly prefer the TEX.

When you consider it, leather isn't the greatest seating surface for driving. While it may evoke a certain luxury (history of furniture and coachwork), it's slippery, not very breathable, and is much more susceptible to damage.

As nice as the leather is the "Tex" is also very nice & durable.
No reasons @ all you should ever regret it. Great car with or without it!

Must be different seating, since the MB Tex that I've had hasn't been as slippery as the MB leather. Might be the way the seat pad differs.

Also a note, my CLK is an 04, the leather has worn a lot since then. The car is in near perfect condition and only has 30,000 miles on it, but the leather gave out long ago. Just food for thought.
