Last week at the time of purchase, my wife and I were at odds over which color to get... I was in favor of Barolo Red/20"Wheel pkg./Almond-Black Int. She had her eye on the Obsidian Black/20"Wheel Pkg./Almond-Black Int.

The Barolo Red GLK came with 235/45 R20 Pirelli Scorpion Zero Asimmetrico. These tires have a UTQG rating of 420 A-A and retail for about $300.00 each.

The Obsidian Black GLK came with the same size tire, 235/45 R20 but with Dunlop Grandtrek Touring A/S. These tires have a UTQG rating of 200 A-A and retail for about $220.00 each.

Well it was her new car, so she did get the GLK with Ob-Black and the Dunlop's....

Questions:

Does anyone else have these 20" Dunlop Tires on their GLK? How do you like them? Are they quiet... loud... sticky... squirmy... etc.?

And to all those that have the 20" Pirelli's, how do you like those? Are they quiet?...loud? ... squirmy?... or sticky... etc.?

Based on the rating system, the Dunlops should wear out twice as fast as the Pirelli's and cost $320.00 less for MB to put them on the car. I feel ripped off a little with these faster wearing tires... that cost MB less money for them but charged us the same as the Pirelli's.......

I got the Dunlops are so far no issues. Have used them in **** pour rain, and no issues what so ever. For winter, I am getting the blizzak ws60s. In Canada I think the way it worked is for those who got the black rails they ended with the Pirelli's and for those who got the aluminum rails got the Dunlop. So far its been the case on 5 GLKs I have seen.

Thanks for responding... hey don't get me wrong... because the Dunlop's have a UTQG rating of 200 probably means they're a very good dry performer, and the tread design does handle rain very well... but the Pirelli tire is a better performer in almost every respect.... especially wear... I just think that if MB is going to use more than one tire supplier, they should match apples to apples, not apples to pears or... oh you know what I mean!

Anyway, ... oh ya... Most of the GLK's with the 20" Wheel Sport Pkg./Alum Rail etc. had the Pirelli's on them. Just one, the one my wife really wanted, happened to have the Dunlop tires.... oh well...

Pirelli Scorpions here. I'm really happy with them. They are quiet and their wet/dry performance is pretty good also. I've taken a few twisties with them and I'm happy.

when i bought mine, the sales rep said i'll maybe get 18-20,000 miles out of the pirelli's. even a guy at discount tire said the same about the pirelli's, when i was having my 22's put on.

So did you mount the same Pirelli tire on your 22" wheel upgrade? Were they talking about the 20" Pirelli or the new 22" Pirelli's? The UTQG rating is 420 on the Pirelli... with proper rotation and air pressure, they should be good for at least 35,000 miles.

Pirelli tires on mine with the same color combination you had in mind for your wife. I had Dunlop P2000's on a 300 zx Turbo, which had a nice ride to them except for when it rained.

they said the pirelli's in any size. high performance, low profiles have a short lifespan. i went with 22" toyo proxes 4. i had only 2 tire brands to choose from, because of the size and width. toyo and nittos, toyos were available sooner and cheaper.

No kidding Baby G...mine came with the 20" Pirelli's and obviously the Aluminum roof rails as well. You know, I wonder if this was a shortage thing just like with the blk vs. aluminum rails. Mine was ordered in July the production date was mid August. I love the Pirelli's, not only for the handling but looks as well!

I have Scorpions here. Have no idea how they compare to dunlops but spirited driving on dry or wet is fine. Soft steering and suspension take confidednce away before tires do (but then again it's an SUV) although screaching lets you know when you make a sharp turn in dry.

I'm more curious to see how they do in snow (not expecting much) and how much they last. Is 2-3 years to much to ask?
