Look again... It's in red.... you have an iron/steel casting mill, or the heavy forging/lathes tools to "make your own rotors"? Cooled... forged or cast iron?.... I doubt it.... But if you do, I'll like to use your services!

This is a 2-P design

Actually MBRedux I have the skills to make far more than you know. I made the first and only fully welded one piece C300/350/63 X280/350 strut tower brace. The Worlds first and only W211/219 adjustable rear camber arms. The Worlds first and only W211/219 adjustable upper A-arms. W211/219 adjustable toe-links made from aircraft grade aluminum. Worlds first and only W204 adjustable rear camber arms also made from aircraft grade aluminum. R170,W124/129/201/202/203/208/209/210 aircraft aluminum adjustable rear camber arms. Now I am going to make X204 and non-sport/non-AMG W211/219 2 piece rotors.

So the SA called and said my car will be ready monday afternoon as the brake pads had to be ordered. He also said they are going to soak them in something that some of the Texas dealerships to to help prevent them from making noise. On a side note, still enjoying the c-class. I like the pick up it has and enjoying sport mode as I don't use it much in my GLK. The brakes stop really good in the C as well. The stopping power reminds me of out recently traded in 3 series.

This old trick went the way of the pushrod many eons ago.... not a good idea these days, especially with these new pad compounds... Not good for Texas, Utah, Maine, or even tiny Delaware... besides, it's not actually the pad surface that makes the noise, it's the back side.

I suppose I will see how it goes and if they make noise again, I will just have to go back. Hoping the noise stops after the swap though.

Just got my car back from the dealership. They replaced the front pads. I don't know if it's the new pads or I got used to the C class but these brakes don't bite nearly as hard as the sedan. Kinda disappointing after driving the c class.

Softer compounds will be more squishy..... there are other ways to keep the right pad and still have no noise.

That squealing brake problem is a real head scratcher since it doesn't seem to affect everyone. Mine are totally quiet, for example. I wonder if I got different pads on my European Delivery vehicle? How about you down in K'town, MegGLK350? You noticing anything?

As I posted... over heated or incorrect use of the brakes during the break-in period along with poor driving and braking habits (constant heavy footed stops... over heated, road salt, sand... parking outdoors in wet damp weather, forgetting to release the parking brake, etc etc) can all cause squeaky brakes....

I'd bet it's not the pads, or the rotors at all.... we broke ours in very well... don't abuse it if not necessary, and garage park it... and our brakes are fantastic.

While that might be true, in my case my brakes just started going to squeal-town out of nowhere. I park it in a semi-closed condominium parking lot on the 2nd story, I don't drive during weekdays, and I am definitely not an aggressive driver; I putter along in C mode comfortably and never in a hurry. It might have been the dampness in the weather here in Vancouver or the sudden drop in temperature but when it started to happen it took me by surprise because none of the other vehicles in my life have had that problem.

Luckily the pads were swapped and so far so good *knocks on wood*

I agree with your comment but for me it does not apply. This isn't my first new vehicle and I am well aware of "bedding" in the brakes. I also believe in the break in period. Not to mention that when I took the car in the first time, the SA, without a debate, knew instantly as I wasn't the first GLK to come in with the problem. After 800 miles he was ready to replace them. If more and more people are coming forward with the same issue, it may not be the drivers who are the problem, but instead, the pads. Either way, 2 days and no noise which is more than I can say for the car when I got it with only 17 miles on it.

Could it be possible that just like the tire brand issue some of the 20' people are having, we are having some sort of brake pad issue? Maybe they changed pads during production.

If what you say is true about your pads, then indeed it could be different pad suppliers causing the problem just like the tire issue ... please post your new pad part numbers off your service sheet/invoice.... thanks!

i have 6000km on mine, and the squeaky brakes just started appearing over the last couple weeks. it seemed to be in line with the temperature drop here in Ontario. i've heard that cold weather one of the possible causes, but i'm not sure. i broke it in nicely, and park it in the garage all the time. i'm taking it in for a "3 month complimentary check up" shorlty, and will ask them about it.

11,500 miles on our GLK and never had the brakes squeal once. But its driven 'hard' so I doubt that lots of excess residual pad material accumulates on the rotors.

what's wrong with the dash? i had this strange rattling noise coming from my passenger side dash. like a little piece of plastic got loose or a marble, and every time i hit even the slightest bump it would rattle. anyway, they tore open the whole dash, didn't find anything, and then just tightened everything... but the noise is gone so that's great!

as for the brakes.. he said it's usual to happen during changing weather, and suggested that i monitor it over the next few weeks. if it continues, to bring it in. i also think it's the weather, because i've been driving it since september with no issues so i didn't make a big deal about it. it's embarrasing though, so we'll see

The dash on driver's side squeaks when the interior warms up, over bumps, very annoying for a new car.

Posted couple months ago and closely checking this thread, it is great news that some of the member actually got it fixed, but not for me yet.

Tried patiently waited and hope it goes away, but never. After car wash, it good for couple of days then came back again.

The problem I have is too busy sending this car to dealership. Got to do something about it. Feel pretty embarrassed for driving this squeaky machine.

So, the dealer finally called me over the Holidays. They are replacing the brakes for me tomorrow when the wife takes it in.

I tired to confirm with the SA if they are replacing the current brakes with the same type of brakes, but just new ones or a totally different type of brake all together. She said, as far as she knows, they are a different type??

Since the last time the GLK has been in, the brakes still squeak, just not as often or as loud. So hopefully with the new brakes, its will be even less or gone all together.

UPDATE:

I got my GLK back yesterday with brand new (softer) break pads and they also replaced all the rotors. So I have basiclly brand new break setup. They asked me to break them in for the next 500kms. No sudden stops and no full pressure

So far I am please and it didn't cost me a dime. I asked about the "replacing the breaks once for the first 2 years thing" and the they told me because this was a special case it doesn't count towards that.

If you are going to get your breaks changed, make sure the dealership opens a case file with MB Canada. Because that way they get reimbursed from them.
