Squeky Breaks
#101
Brought my car in, SA cannot hear the noise (they must be kidding). Instead of fixing my problem, they complain about my driving habit.
OMG, I owned many cars before, and never have this problem, so may be my driving habbit is not good for MB.
However, they did the brake service, noise goes away and I hope it is for long time.
At the end, my wife gave me a good advise, when a brand new shinning MB GLK having a squeky noise on the road, only MB would looks bad, not the driver.

2010 GLK 350 4Matic
They changed the break pads and rotors on my car for free. Since then, no issues what so ever.
Go to your MB dealership and ask them to open a case with MB Canada (or US). They should be able to let you know what the outcome is. Most of the break pads used in NA market is much harder than European models.

When I went to in the dealership, first, the service guy told me "they will order the parts, let me in some other time to fix this issue." They even didn't let me explain what's wrong with it.
Then his manager let he do a road test....just can't reproduce that sound....
Seems, they knew the problem which is a common well-know issue.

Aftermarket Brake Pad Suggestions?
I love the GLK, but I have this same issue. At 16,000 miles brakes dont squeek they SCREETCH. Really embarassing when your in the drive thru and you pull up to that window. Took it back to the dealer they said pads and rotors were fine but dirty. Charged me $200 bucks to clean them. Two weeks later I'm back at the dealer with the same brake squeel. They keep the car over a week claiming they cant reproduce the sound. I throw the usual customer fit "oh come on" and they refund the $200 bucks. Technically I could have pressed them longer on the manufacture defect issue, but honestly ready to move on. So going the aftermarket route but have no idea where to start. Any suggestions on brands looking for particular low brake dust. As that is also an issue, go figure?

Dust is a necessary evil of good brakes. But we use PowerSlot products.

Now you may need to consider that the noises are not coming from the pads but the pad hardware. So I would replace both sets as well. (They're cheap enough) Now the rotors may be at fault also. (Too soft) So change those out if all else fails. Believe it or not, a neat application of Brake-Quiet always does the trick for about $5 bucks.
PS: See that "no" next to the "Slot" above? That's the reason these brakes develop squeaks over time. No pad manufacturer has a set with a slot available for the GLK at this time since OEM specs require there not be. They'll wise up sooner or later!

Update after one year!
The squeeky break noise goes away, and didn't happen this year winter, not sure why but it is gone, I am happy about it.
However, Last winter in the McDonald drive thur, stick my head out to listen to the squeeky break and damage my wheel badly, so it does take a toll.

squeeks while reversing
not sure if this is an isolated case.
For a few months and 2 times I have complained about squeaks while reversing.
This is quite embarrassing especially someone is in the car with you.
Sure enough they can not locate the problem nor does the noise reappear. Just got back car from 'service' and .... you guessed it... the noise comes back?
I know brakes squeaks while going forward...but in reverse too?
Never had an issue with other 6 cars owned?

For the most part rotors are usually going in one direction. When you go in reverse the friction or rub is just the opposite and sometimes you will get that noise. Pads could be on their way out or they might just need a cleaning. Rare but it happens often enough.
